Misery Mpuzu Sikwela

He is a senior lecturer in Economics and his PhD is in Agricultural Economics from the University of Fort Hare and the Netherlands. Dr Sikwela’s interests in research are rural development, urban agriculture and food security. Dr. Sikwela is involved in a number of projects around the country and beyond and he enjoys collaborative work in areas that involve the upliftment of communities. He is actively involved in current, innovative, and accessible technologies to communities and how they can enhance their livelihoods. He has a passion for community engagement in the areas surrounding the university and my projects involve multidisciplinary contributions from various departments in the university.   

Academically, I am a holder of a PhD degree in Agricultural Economics. My thesis is entitled “The role of farmer support programmes in influencing market access for smallholder farmers in South Africa. A case study of smallholder farmers in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa.” I am interested in development work and l have the knowledge and expertise to run complex development projects in rural and urban areas. l have a lot of experience in smallholder agriculture and rural development projects. This experience had been compounded by the courses and field experience I have received over the years. I am a researcher and a lecturer who enjoys community work and community engagement. 

I currently hold a PhD in Agricultural Economics and Post Graduate Diploma in Higher Education. I am passionate about teaching and also doing research.
