About Lucian Laubscher:
am a young South African scientist with my Honours Bachelor Degree in Microbiology (NQF level 8). I have 12 months of working experience and ambitiously looking to advance and develop my career while pursuing my dream of moving to Ireland. Gifted with a valuable qualification and expertise, I am a hard-working, highly organised individual always paying strong attention to accuracy and detail. With strong problem-solving skills, I believe myself to be the perfect candidate when looking to invest in a dedicated employee delivering valuable contribution to the success of your company with great passion for work quality and ethic. I am experienced with various microbiological and biochemical laboratory techniques and equipment, having used quantitative PCR analysis in my Honours research project for the quantification of SARS-CoV-2 and CrAssphage viruses from municipal wastewater samples. I currently have 12 months experience in the dairy industry and am currently employed by Darling Dairy in South Africa, where I have gained invaluable GMP laboratory and production experience in a quality control environment, documentation and administrative skills, as well as exposure to laboratory management and management of a number of other projects.

Honours project: Suitability of using CrAssphage DNA and RNA as a faecal indicator to act as a normaliser for use in wastewater-based epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2. Required extraction and purification of viral DNA and RNA from municipal wastewater samples for the quantification of COVID-19 and CrAssphage viruses using RT-qPCR and qPCR analysis. The data was used to evaluate the suitability of CrAssphage DNA and RNA as faecal indicators to act as a normalizer in SARS-CoV-2 wastewater-based epidemiology studies and shared with the South African Medical Research Council.
