Len Pienaar

I studied mechanical engineering and business administration and have a life- long interest in how things work and how they can be improved. I have 20 years’ experience in senior leadership positions, primarily in financial services, telecommunications, consulting, and media. I am equally comfortable in large multinationals and start-ups.

Pushing boundaries, a determination to succeed, and assembling and leading exceptional teams are the building blocks of my career. They are underpinned by exceptional analytical ability. My focus on tech innovation and customer adoption, from conception and strategy to execution and delivery, has enabled me to launch and commercialise numerous industry-first innovations, for which I have received local and global recognition. I have raised the bar regarding financial and telecommunications inclusion, to which I am deeply committed.

I have chosen to be based in my home country of South Africa. Still, I have participated in creating and operating businesses across the African continent, India, Europe, the UK, and the US. I thrive in complex and diverse environments.

With twenty years of experience, I  have held CEO and COO positions in several industries, including financial services, telecommunications, consulting, and media.

I have launched several industry-first innovations throughout my career, including mobile payment services in multiple countries, driving widespread adoption. I have received local and global recognition for my efforts. 

In my past leadership roles, I have launched and scaled new businesses and products and turned around unprofitable businesses. I have experience leading large, complex organisations across multiple countries in Europe, Africa, India, and the USA. 

I am a member of the African Leadership Initiative, affiliated with the Aspen Global Leadership Network, and am passionate about innovation and customer adoption. I am driven to convert complex concepts and innovative ideas into sustainable businesses that have a positive impact on people's lives and align with my values.
