Kate Machard

I have over 10 years’ experience as a lawyer, and have worked for top-tier law firms (in South Africa, Qatar and Australia) as well as been employed as Senior Legal Counsel for a fortune 1000 company in South Africa. I am an action orientated, enthusiastic, experienced lawyer with in-depth experience in front and back-end commercial law, partnering with clients on portfolio-wide procurement strategies, including tailored pro forma contract solutions and stream procurement.

I am a confident, well presented, and client serviced orientated professional, who is highly motivated to deliver timely and tangible results.  I have represented developers, landowners, contractors, sub-contractors, tenants and government authorities. This includes drafting and negotiating agreements for lease, construction contracts, development agreements, consultancy agreements, maintenance contracts, supply agreements, equipment hire agreements, purchase orders, services agreements, and project management agreements.

I am also proud to say that I also have a wealth of litigation experience, as I ran my own RAF practice defending the Road Accident Fund as my client at the beginning of my career, and have been heavily involved in other litigation varying from International Arbitrations (ICC), local arbitrations and court proceedings either as in-house counsel or as a construction lawyer. I am therefore able to say that I am comfortable as a front and back end lawyer.

In addition to my experience and personal qualities, I have a solid educational foundation and a passion for the challenges and opportunities that come with being an in-house legal counsel, and would welcome the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing success of the organisation.

 In 2003, I have completed my Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Industrial Psychology and Law at the University of the Witwatersrand.

In 2007, I completed my LLB at the same university.
