Positions/Responsibilities: 

Curriculum development 

Prepared and delivered engaging lessons that cover various chemistry and physical science topics and concepts for grades 10 to 12.

Developed and implemented tests, assignments, and other assessments in line with the curriculum objectives to measure student progress and evaluate learning outcomes. 

Utilised assessment for learning in chemistry and physical science, leading to enhanced performance pass rate of 81% in 2022 at “The Leadership College". 

Graded the assignments and tests for chemistry and physical science.

Laboratory experience

Designed and conducted laboratory experiments for high school chemistry and physical science students, which included titrations, acid-base reactions, measuring reaction rates, and analytical chemistry.  

Provided instruction to students during laboratory sessions, and this helped improved their problem-solving skills as a result most students scored above 50% for the practical component of physical science. 

Managed and maintained laboratory equipment, including balances, microscope, and burettes.

Developed and implemented laboratory safety procedures, and disposal of hazardous waste and proper storage of chemicals.

Online teaching experience

Developed and delivered engaging online chemistry and physical science lessons to a diverse student population through zoom (2019 to 2020) at Shiloh centre of learning in Cape Town.

Utilized Google Classroom to create assignments, quizzes, and discussions, allowing for easy organization and tracking of student progress.

Provided feedback and support to students through Google Classroom's messaging system and comment feature.

Managed to cover about 75% of the scheduled content during the Covid-19 lockdown by using Google Classroom to deliver virtual instruction and assessments.

Maintained accurate attendance records for all my students’ attendance and academic performance.

Provided guidance and support to students by answering their questions and providing feedback on their work. Communicated with parents, other teachers, and school administrators regarding student progress, behaviour, and other issues thereby improving parent involvement significantly.

Team Leader. 

Kutlwanong centre for maths and science in Cape Town– South Africa from January 2015 to current.

Led a team of fifteen tutors in planning and implementing a successful tutoring program for physical science students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Collaborated with other team leaders to develop effective strategies for improving student performance.

Coordinated team meetings and provided guidance to team members to ensure that program goals were met.

Monitored program progress on content coverage and students’ performance and provided regular reports to management.

Chief Invigilator

National Senior Certificate Examinations at Shiloh centre of learning– South Africa in 2013.

Developed and managed the invigilation timetable to ensure proper exam administration.

Maintained strict security protocols to prevent cheating or misconduct during examinations resulting in 100% compliance with exam regulations and no instances of cheating. 

Managed the resolution of any issues or concerns that arose during the examination process.

After-care supervision 

Supervised students to ensure their safety and well-being while in the after-care program.

Planned and organized activities such as arts and crafts, games, and outdoor play to keep students engaged and entertained while in the after-care program.

Assisted students with their homework, provided guidance, and made sure that they complete their assignments while in the after-care program.

Research experience

Conducted research on virtual practical work in science teaching and learning in 2017, resulting in a published article available in the University of Cape Town library. This work benefitted students and educators by providing insights into the effectiveness of virtual practical work as a teaching tool, and offering recommendations for improving its implementation in the classroom this research work has since been cited in two other articles.

Other  

Involved with athletics training of field events including long jump, discus, shot put and javelin. (Plumstead High School- Cape Town (2014 -2019)

Participated in staff and professional development meetings, and other school-related events such as departmental meetings, curriculum road shows, district exam setting meetings, school emergency evacuation and fire drills.

Coordinated and supervised student activities, including science fairs, and field trips. 

Involved with the marking of the National Senior Certificate exams (NSC), physical science paper 2 (chemistry) from 2018 to current. 

Served on various school committees, including the science department, safety committee, and curriculum development team.
