Adri Janse van Rensburg

I am an experienced leader with a history of development in legal risk & compliance management, strategy & policy formulation, financial planning & analysis, audit & assurance, legal/internal advisory & control, people management, and contract review & negotiation, I feel I would make an excellent addition to your company. My history demonstrates that I enjoy challenge and have repeatedly led teams to excel while setting ambitious goals in fast-paced settings. At the same time, I am able to manage and control complex operations with a focus on efficiency and profitability. 

I have been employed in the Auditor-General South Africa (AGSA) for 26 years and worked in different units within the AGSA. I started my career as an auditor in financial audit and transferred to the Investigation Unit in 2003 being involved in high-risk investigations at government institutions, whilst studying for my LLB, a Certified Fraud Examiner and Recognised Government Auditor. 

In 2013, I moved to Corporate Legal Services where I initiated the litigation project in taking legal action against defaulting auditees for non-payment of audit fees and providing legal advice and technical advice to both audit and non-audit sectors. I also supported the development of frameworks and environments for moral and legal compliance, as well as the implementation of compliance policies and procedures applicable at various business units within the AGSA.

In 2017, I was part of the core team that initiated the process of Public Audit Act amendments by offering extensive legal assistance, support, and research. In 2018, I contributed to the drafting and approval of the Public Audit Act amendments and regulations which gives effect to the AGSA's additional powers and authority to enact consequence management and accountability in public sector.

Subsequently established the Material Irregularity Unit in 2019 that manages the implementation of the amendments to the Public Audit Act, which gives the AGSA the powers to raise material irregularities and to enforce actions on accounting officers/authorities of government institutions to address material non-compliances with legislation, fraud/theft, breach of fiduciary duty and determining the impact such as financial loss to the State, loss/misuse of material public resource, and substantial harm to public sector institutions/general public.
