Your Role at Impact:

As a data scientist, you will work on our core and business products to help shape the future of what we build at Impact.

You will enjoy working with our rich data set, cutting edge technology, and the ability to see your insights turned into real products on a regular basis.

Partnering with internal and external stakeholders, you will develop new products/features and solve business problems by preparing, analyzing, and understanding data to prototype products/features, deliver insight, predict emerging trends, and provide recommendations to optimize results.


You should have a background in a quantitative or technical field, experience working with large data sets, experience in data-driven decision making, and data story telling through visualization.

You are proficient in big data technologies, Cloud environment, statistical modeling, and machine learning algorithms.

You are passionate and diligent about staying abreast of academic research and industry best practices in the constantly evolving digital marketing landscape.

You are focused on results, a self-starter, and have demonstrated success in using analytics to drive the understanding, growth, and success of a product.


_ This position will be based in Cape Town post Covid-19 and welcomes anyone who is interested in relocating._

What You'll Do:


  • Colead projects with handson analysis and modeling, drawing from multiple analytical methods to choose the right tool and right level of complexity appropriate for the business challenges
  • Communicate and visualize insights to multiple levels of stakeholders with clarity, informing decisionmaking. Design and create interactive visualization dashboard to facilitate custom analytics, trouble shooting, data storytelling, and evangelization of ML products to nontechnical audiences
  • Participate in engagement with internal and external stakeholders to identify, prioritize, frame, and structure complex and ambiguous challenges, where advanced analytics projects or tools can have the biggest impact
  • Develop comprehensive understanding of Impact data structures and metrics, advocating for product changes where needed
  • Contribute to Data Science COE knowledge sharing and documentation. Provide mentorship to junior team members
  • Be a selfstarter, motivated by a passion for developing the best possible solutions to problems

What You Have:


  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, Statistics or other quantitative Social Science fields. Advanced degree preferred
  • 35 years' experience of tech industry work experience as a data analyst, statistician, or data scientist. Experience in statistical data analysis, such as linear models, multivariate analysis, stochastic models, and sampling methods
  • Well versed in R, Python, and SQL, and big data query language
  • Experience with big data and cloud platforms to deploy largescale data science solutions. Working knowledge of distributed computing framework preferred
  • Experience articulating business questions and using mathematical techniques to arrive at an answer using available data
  • Experience communicating the results of analyses with product and leadership teams to influence the strategy of the product
  • Understanding of digital marketing and statistical algorithms typically used in marketing analytics a plus
