The Strategic Fuel Fund Association (SFF), a subsidiary of the Central Energy Fund (CEF), manages crude oil storage facilities in the Western Cape, and environmental protection against oil pollution.

SFF currently seek to employ a FIRE AND SAFETY OFFICER at Saldanha, Western Cape.


PURPOSE
To manage and maintain all Fire/Safety and Environment issues arise within the terminal.


Responsibilities

  • Review and update Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), procedures and standards
  • Manage the Safety Awareness program and promote a health and safety culture e.g. toolbox talks
  • Ensure safety inductions is provided to all personnel, contractors, and firsttime visitors
  • Manage and coordinate all medical examinations for personnel (medical surveillance program)
  • Purchase and quality control/inspection of safety equipment and supplies
  • Ensure control/inspections of medical supplies
  • To complete risk assessments and workplace inspections
  • Report all health and safety risks to Terminal Manager and ensure they are addressed effectively
  • Act as a representative to management and employees regarding matters concerning the health and safety of employees and investigate complaints that arise.
  • Ensure adherence to all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) policies, procedures, work instructions and standards
  • Provide updates on legislative materials related to Occupational Health and Safety and Fire prevention
  • Assist with registering and maintaining of the standard (e.g. ISO 45001:2018)
  • Ensure adherence to National Veld and Forest Fire Act, and other relevant legislations, standards, and procedures
  • Ensure that noncompliance is addressed effectively
  • Ensure all health, safety and fire equipment comply to company and legal requirements
  • Report on all Fire/Safety activities, incidents, and investigations
  • Manage and moderate the incident system (INX) and
  • Delegate incidents and near misses to responsible supervisors and managers for investigation
  • Followup on incident investigations and ensure the close out thereof
  • Review and update company procedures, standards, and legal requirements
  • Monitor work environment for fire related risks and hazards
  • Manage the composition and practice of fire simulations in terminal and specified plants
  • Ensure and keep abreast with fire prevention and management technology and methods
  • Purchase and quality control/inspection of all fire equipment
  • Report all incidents to fire department and Terminal Manager

Qualifications and Experience

  • Post Grade 1
  • Diploma in Health and Safety or Environmental management
  • Firefighting Training
  • First Aid Training
  • SAMTRAC
  • First Aid
  • Computer skills
  • Valid (EB) driver's license
  • 5 years' experience in the Petrochemical industry
