The Cultural Policy and Management Department is seeking a proactive administrator with experience in the arts sector, and/or a desire to learn and work in this area.

He/she must be able to engage with the academic and public programs in the departments, providing departmental interface to students, staff and administration (School and Faculty).

Cultural Policy and Management (CPM) department in the Wits School of Arts offers electives and traineeships for 3rd and 4th year undergraduate degrees, course work in the Honours and Masters years, degrees by research at the MA and PhD level as well as short courses.

The postgraduate degrees are aimed at both recent graduate students as well as at mid-career professionals aiming to consolidate their grasp and practice of the field.

The successful applicant will report directly to the departmental head work and closely with the school programmes administrators and finance team led by School Administrative Manager, as well as manage departmental systems on a part-time basis to be mutually agreed.


Duties:


  • Organisation of meetings and minute taking where necessary
  • Communication with academic and support staff, students and other stakeholders
  • Document management, including course outlines, reading packs and elearning sites
  • Administer all departmental activities and those that have a relationship to the School and Faculty
  • Administering departmental budgets and reconciliations, including addressing budgetrelated queries with the School and Faculty where necessary
  • File management for department
  • Organising quotes for equipment, projects and excursions
  • Organising prospective postgraduate student interviews and auditions
  • Interface with staff and students in the department
  • Manage room/venue bookings for the department
  • Administer exam processes and marks, including liaison with external examiners
  • Working with staff to manage the logistics for workshops, excursions and other academic project activities
  • Managing travel arrangements for staff, and for student excursions

Essential Requirements:


  • Matric
  • A post matric administrative qualification would be desirable
  • 5 years of related work experience

  • A dynamic, flexible approach to the Administrative Officer role an understanding of the position in terms of being an active participant in the department.
  • An understanding of University systems would be a distinct advantage (including of SIMS and ULWAZI).
