As an Executive Search and Career Consultant specializing in the niche market of Supply Chain, I represent some of the top leaders and am called upon by blue chip organizations in the country to secure talent and assist them in building high performance teams.


One such client of mine is a Production company based in Durban and they are looking for a Category Head to manage Forestry.


Reporting to the Procurement Director, the incumbent of this position will be responsible for the development and implementation of a category strategy to optimize total cost of ownership, minimize risk and ensure sustainability for the relevant Category across the group.


Key Performance Areas:


  • Develops a category strategy (3 to 5 years), develops road maps to implement the strategy and monitors against this
  • Ensures category alignment with the Group Procurement team
  • Scopes and sources at a global level
  • Drives supplier negotiations and facilitates contract implementation
  • Conducts supplier relationship management including supplier audits and evaluations
  • Focuses on buying channel digitalisation and automation
  • Minimises Total Cost of Ownership

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Degree in Supply Chain, Commerce or Category relevant
  • CIPS registration and / or qualification would be an added advantage

Minimum Experience:


  • 510 years in strategic sourcing / operations / commercial / category specialist role
  • Procurement in international environment and leadership experience preferable
  • Proficiency in MS Office suites will be essential
  • Competent in the use of SAP MM module is preferred
