I've been on 'holiday' (and still am) back in Old Blighty to see my parents and sort a few things out. I am exhausted. Yes people I have run out of energy (I really have!). So I am taking time off now for 'medical reasons' - indefinitely.

1 believe 1 used up all my sick days,
so I'm calling in dead.

1:10 Zoli

Don't get me wrong, my parents are very sweet people, however as the winners of the 2018 Drama King and Queen Awards (Family Deluxe Edition), exquisite self control by bystanders is required. (This year I let the side down, I have almost finished a bottle of Polish very expensive Cherry Brandy, the one that you have to go to Poland to get by appointment etc etc. this is over the almost 3 weeks that I have been here, my Dad knows, my Mum is making a fuss (she thinks Dad dosn't know) and Dad hasn't said anything). However I feel that it's use was more medicinal.

I don't think I can start issuing any invites to this party yet (any more at least), but keep the end of April next year free.

2020 update - My folks are fine - it must be all those long walks on Oxshott, Esher and Epsom heath with those nutty Irish Setters of theirs. Who needs Wifi when you have those amazing woods.... My Uncle Ian and Aunty Ina and Calum and the rest of my family in Formby are also fine. It's my birthday this month and I was hoping to have a picnic in the woods with my Dad.... bloody corona!

Thank you Bill Stankiewicz, 🐝 Brand Ambassador! I was thinking about your radio show earlier today, I think I will 'tune in'.

Lisa Vanderburg - I don't think I'll be going back for a visit this year... Let's put it this way, I am very lucky to be alive and if it wasn't for Sean the Shaman I wouldn't be here! Just moved into a new place, much much much better than the old spot. (FYI I left all the stuff I buried there behind!) I am going to the hardware store tomorrow, I think I will also buy a new spade.

Nicole Chardenet - I have had to enter into a series of 'lease agreements' in order to have some Studio Space. Obviously the rent is paid up at HITT CLUB Basecamp. In cash. Sometimes your credit card arrangement (when you keep it in +ve to take advantage of the interest rates, card now expired, account open...eish) does not come to your aid straight away. MONEY - so glad I 'don't' have any... - anyway I have lots of spots all over Joburg that would LOVE some fertilizer and I have some Lion Poop to spare.

Like of all of us Nicole Chardenet - our folks occasionally drive us nuts. I went over mainly to check on Dad (he is OK), but only found out after she had the all clear that my Mum was awaiting on results from a biopsy. I temporarily practiced something called 'Affectionate Detachment' and it really worked. Dad left books of etiquette lying around and things from then on went well. At the time of writing the article however, it was a wee bit of different story!

Nicole Chardenet - fortunately when I left peace reigned at 'Cardwell Towers' my parents even held hands at the airport.

Praveen Raj Gullepalli - I don't think Liverpool (and Formby) are going to know what hit them quite frankly. If my high energy levels are anything to go by (zooming down from around 3000 ft above sea level to about 10-20ft above sea level has given me a boost of note. That coupled with ozone etc. etc. from the coast, I am going to be unstoppable... Sleep? No chance Food? Not particularly interested!

Lada 🏡 Prkic - I guess if I had had the privilege of being a parent, then I could relate better... Still it's very sweet that my folks care very much.

Harvey Lloyd there is a very nice cave available about 5 minutes dragon ride away, there is a very nice blue dragon who is looking for a new friend.

Claire L Cardwell

3 years ago #22

Harvey Lloyd I have had my own cave, right from the start, on a steep cliff on the side of a mountain over looking a cold sea. I think the only way I can get there is to actually fly my personal flight attack rainbow dragon in there. Mostly I feel like if I could actually live in this cave and have absolutely no human contact whatsoever for my current spin on this wheel that would suit me the best.

Claire L Cardwell

Harvey Lloyd - your considered comments and wisdom are always a welcome read on any of our posts here on beBee ! I doubt right now if we will reach that sweet spot. Both of them seem to think I am about 17 years old still. This time around I have confounded their attempts to get me to go into 'instant moody teenager mode'. I have engaged in some 'affectionate detachment' as an approach. Still love them dearly, but need to protect my heart, soul and the accompanying chakra! The drama has been wearing this time - I am exhausted and on a thin edge. Long tramps though the woods around my home have been the antidote.

Lada 🏡 Prkic - that fear is 99.9% of the problem, they have spent their lives trying to grab on to me whilst I perform ever increasingly spectacular 'bids for freedom'. I was about 3 or 4 when I ran away from school - in Sofia. I was half way home on a bus before they found me.

Claire L Cardwell

3 years ago #19

Harvey Lloyd - fair point. Could you tell me why (from a father's perspective) my Dad takes it upon himself to patrol the corridors whilst I am at home. Pops down to ask me why I went to the loo in the night - or got up to do a wee bit of work? I am nearly 50, I find this increasingly strange... Especially as it's just him, me and Mum in the house...

Claire L Cardwell

Good point Ali 🐝 Anani, Brand Ambassador @beBee (oh my God miracles will never cease - look I managed to tag you!). The thing is if you have a drinking problem or drink to get drunk, then it doesn't matter whether you are alone or in a social setting. I often drink alone. Just one drink, on a Friday or Saturday night (and not every Friday and Saturday night). I never drink during the day or when I have to drive a car. When it comes to drugs like alcohol (and yes alcohol is regarded as a drug in addiction treatment centres) rigid self control is key.

Claire L Cardwell

Mine too Lada 🏡 Prkic - I guess this is an advance 'my dog ate my homework plea' to some of my clients... My Dad will literally blast mountain ranges out of the way to help me. And even if he thinks I need help, when I think I do not.

Claire L Cardwell

Paul Walters - you don't have to deal with Uncle Ian, I am quite sure he's more than happy to make Formby Golf Club the venue for the party (he was President there after all). Nope, he's probably thinking logistics. IE How many people are coming to this flippin' party, how many tents do we need to put on the Golf Course and my favourite niece is going to watch me do all the planning from her eeyrie in South Africa and just sweep in and join the party. What have I got myself into? Etc.etc.

Claire L Cardwell

3 years ago #15

So I guess this means that the whole of beBee land is going to be in Formby next April... eish, I think there will be 'Tents on the Golf Course!'. Paul Walters I am slightly scared, I think I am in a wee bit of trouble with me Uncle Ian!

Awesome Paul, couldn't imagine the day with out you, or the week in fact. You could maybe do a piece on Liverpool and it's surrounds. Did you know that my Dad was one of the naughty boys peering through the basement windows at the Live Art Classes, when Lennon was there.... Paul Walters perhaps we could do a Liverpool tour? And you could write one of your kick ass articles. Don't forget to include Hoylake Swimming Club in there too...

Franci🐝Eugenia Hoffman, beBee Brand Ambassador - this brandy is mind blowing - it's Soplica Wisniowa Cherry Brandy. They've been making it since 1891. Apparently until recently you could only get it in Poland. So it might involve a wee bit of a road trip. I reckon going to Poland will be like going to Fairyland. Judging on the just popping over for half an hour (and returning home a few days later) parties I have had with Polish people. I really can't be late back to work this week... I have wall to wall appointments and meeting and a large party to go to - so that's Friday and Saturday done. I will also work all day Sunday, and Tuesday I have an appointment with the Deputy Director of Building Control at Joburg Council, a Chief Plans Examiner etc. etc. I have to go on a Council Cruise, with my best 'Air Hostess' smile on my face. Oh yeah on Saturday one of my old Clients - Madri Nel is popping around, she wants to work with me, freelance in her spare time. Madri is awesome. Always dug that bird. Maybe then relatively normal service will be resumed and... I don't think Joburg via Poland is going to cut it really. If I go to Poland now, I will not see any of you until 2019 at the earliest! Anyway I am busted, couldn't sleep, so I sneaked down to drink the last few dregs. Now if I was really smart I would put it back in the drinks cabinet as it is (with the replacement one behind it) and see what Dad says!

Phil Friedman - definitely the Welsh and the Bit bit. My Dad is like a big grumpy red dragon & and of course the french bit makes him exceptionally rude. But all I have to do is ask for help (or he thinks I need help) and he will move heaven and earth for me. All I have to do is say Dad - and he's there. (Not always happy to be dragged away from the sport on the TV), but he'll drop everything in a heart beat to be with me. He still hasn't told me off about that Cherry Brandy,(it's the really expensive Polish one) think I will try and replace it tomorrow.

Chris 🐝 Guest - it's very funny you mention that Chris, you see this afternoon I was out with my friend Angela and her parents, we went for a walk to Black Pond in the forest near my home. We met a lady who had 2 dalmatians, this group suddenly became 3 (and then another 2 joined), it was a Dalmatian Party in the Woods. The dog that had joined us first was an old lady, she was so sweet, but painfully thin. So thin in fact that the lady Dalmatian owner (who was wearing a pink top) and I were very concerned. We took pictures of the dog and rang the owners. The lady who answered the phone was desperately worried, so we decided not to ring the RSPCA. Pink Lady then rang her friend at the Dalmatian Rescue Society (who is also a vet) and she told us to take the dog to the vets. Problem - only exit to the woods was blocked by imminent arrival of owner. Solution - Kitty had to kidnap the dog. Just imagine, me walking through thin brush and woods by the side of a very large pond with a large white dog with black spots on it. Did anyone see us? Nope. Could my friends (who kinda knew where I was see me and my new dog) Nope. This dog was really lovely Chris, it was quite hard to relinquish her - when Pink Lady rang her vet she actually knew the dog, she's got a thyroid problem and that's why she is so thin, they are battling to keep the weight on her. Millie had to be the sweetest dog I think I have ever met. I miss her already! Angela has pics of me posing with my new dog (that I had to give back) will post them when I get them.

Pascal Derrien - it would seem like you would have some experience of that one too ! I was always told the French bit made us rather expensive.. Re the landing, that's the problem with the zip lines.... I do hope Ken Boddie can assist. It looks like we are going to have to hire an engineer full time at the HITT Club.

Thanks for the share Ken Boddie - have told that Mr RS Hole bloke where to get off. Please let everyone know that I am looking for another job. Will be in office on Friday at 11:30am to pick up my stuff and will be in the pub from 12pm onwards for leaving drinks. The crates of Cherry Brandy should be arriving by 10am. I have decided to take a more active role in my duties as President of the Hide In The Trees Club (HITT Club).

Chris 🐝 Guest - I drove past that spot in Cobham a couple of weeks ago, my brother said the shop had long gone, it's a real shame. John really was so helpful when assisting you chose music or tracking down some elusive tracks. He also did not have a particular fixation on one genre, Jazz, Acid Jazz and House Music were well represented as well as Classical Music, Opera and of course ROCK music. Despite Amazon having it's advantages you really can't beat that kind of customer service. Chris (my brother) and I used to love going to his shop.

And yes to both re the brandy Chris 🐝 Guest - there is a tiny bit left, I think I might have a quick swig before going for a brisk long walk in the woods.

Right now Chris 🐝 Guest - Aunty Ina would make a fantastic president. She is really the loveliest lady I have ever ever met! John Lodge? Who is that? I am lucky if I have access to that invention by John Logie Baird....
