    Default job background
    Description

Our mission at Otago Regional Council (ORC) is to protect and enhance the environment, enabling our communities to do the same. To achieve this, we are evolving as an organisation and have ambitious goals to reach. We need the right people in the right roles to help us succeed.

Otago is a unique and special place, covering a vast area - the third largest local government region in New Zealand. It features mountains, coastal lowlands, dramatic rivers, and wild beaches. Our environment here is part of who we are, and at ORC, we work daily to preserve it.

    The Opportunity

We seek a Manager Engineering to join our Science and Resilience directorate on a full-time basis in our busy Dunedin/Queenstown/Alexandra office.

This role provides effective leadership and operational oversight to teams managing flood protection, drainage, and river management functions at Otago Regional Council. It offers an opportunity to drive river engineering work programmes, supporting the resilience of Otago communities.

As a Manager Engineering, your key responsibilities will include:

    1. Providing leadership to the Engineering Team, ensuring alignment with ORC priorities and fostering a high-performance culture.
    2. Overseeing the delivery of high-quality capital works and maintenance programmes that support community resilience.
    3. Collaborating across ORC and with external partners and stakeholders to drive effective environmental management and leverage funding opportunities.
    4. Managing projects to ensure timely and budget-conscious delivery, meeting ORC's strategic objectives.

If you're interested in leading a team and making a meaningful impact, then this role is for you.

    About You

We're looking for a dynamic leader with at least six years of senior leadership experience, ideally within local or central government. Your qualifications should include:

    1. A Bachelor of Engineering degree or equivalent in a similar field.
    2. 10+ years' experience in Civil/Mechanical Engineering and/or Contract Management.
    3. Strong strategic planning, people management, and change management skills.
    4. Proven ability to communicate technical information effectively to various stakeholders.
    5. Experience in fostering partnerships and stakeholder engagement.

    What We Offer

At ORC, we value diversity and inclusion. We actively encourage applications from anyone who shares our values of MANA (Influence with respect and integrity), TIKA (Doing the right thing and doing things right), and AROHA (Showing we care). To support our diverse and capable team, we offer:

    1. Flexible work opportunities.
    2. Life Insurance.
    3. Superannuation.
    4. Competitive remuneration packages.

    How to Apply

If you meet the criteria, please submit your application, including your CV and cover letter outlining why you're the ideal candidate for this role via the 'Apply' button. Note that we may consider and interview candidates as their applications are received, so we encourage early application.
