    Job Description

    This role involves designing customised pump arrangements, modifying existing drawings where necessary and providing technical advice to machine-shops, fabricators and fitters to ensure correct implementation through to installation.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Create new designs with cutting lists and machining/fabrication drawings as required.
    • Evaluate and provide technical solutions for product performance issues in the field.
    • Review manufacturing drawings and work closely with production to provide technical support during manufacturing and assembly, including troubleshooting and problem-solving as needed.
    • Support sales with new designs or adjustments to existing designs for baseplates, vertical pumps, pontoons, walkaways and tanks, and provide technical guidance on new products.
    • Comply with customer specifications, industry and engineering standards in all design work.
    • Provide engineering calculations, including load analysis, material stress, fluid dynamics and centre of gravity calculations.
    • Identify material requirements and verify bills of materials per job file received.
    • Select appropriate materials and components, considering cost, durability and availability.
    • Support the assembly process to ensure contractual technical requirements are met, identifying assembly methods and resolving problems encountered during assembly.
    • Interpret engineering drawings and assist machine-shops and fabricators with machine-setup and drawing interpretation.
    • Collaborate with Quality to interpret drawings and resolve Non-Conformances.
    • Ensure adherence to ISO quality standards and maintain records of drawing revisions, traceability and Drawing Revision Management.
    • Participate in design meetings with Technical Sales, QA and Planning, and conduct technical handovers internally and externally.
    • Analyse supply scope, bills of materials and project documentation.
    • Evaluate machine-shop and fabricator capabilities and capacities, and provide feedback to procurement to improve lead times, cost management and quality.

    Desired Qualifications

    • Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
    • Registration as a professional engineer and relevant experience in the pump industry.

    Key Skills

    • General knowledge of pump application, mechanical and hydraulic loading, and engineering concepts.
    • Knowledge of material strengths, fits and tolerances.
    • Hands-on experience with design, engineering and/or fabrication of pump components.
    • Proficiency with CAD packages and conceptualising designs using computer-aided design software.
    • Strong understanding of metallurgy.
    • Experience with Vault and ERP Systems.
    • Proficient computer skills and Autodesk package proficiency.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and creative approach to generating new ideas.
    • Minimum 8 years' experience in mechanical design and fabrication detailing.
