You will be the Technical and Operations lead, responsible for overseeing the technical aspects and day-to-day operations of the Data Warehouse teams within Sanlam Business Intelligence.

You will focus on managing the relationship with the technical infrastructure team, you will also be responsible for the data pipelines, and reporting solutions to ensure smooth operations, data accuracy, and efficient delivery of BI services.

What will you do?


Output/Core Tasks:


Data Pipeline and Data Warehouse Management: Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines for extracting, transforming, and storing data into the BI environment. Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency across multiple data sources.


Performance Monitoring and Optimization:

Monitor and optimize the performance of Data Warehouses, BI systems, data pipelines, and queries to improve efficiency and responsiveness.

Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, fine-tune configurations, and optimize resource allocation.


Incident and Problem Management:
Act as the primary point of contact for managing BI-related incidents and problems. Coordinate troubleshooting efforts, resolve technical issues, and implement preventive measures to minimize disruptions.


Change and Release Management:
Manage the deployment of changes, upgrades, and enhancements to BI systems. Ensure proper change control processes, version management, and testing procedures to maintain system stability and integrity.


Data Governance and Security:
Collaborate with data governance teams to establish and enforce data governance policies, standards, and best practices. Ensure compliance with data security and privacy regulations, implement access controls, and monitor data usage and access patterns.


Team Leadership and Mentoring:
Provide technical leadership and guidance to the BI operations team. Foster a culture of continuous learning, skill development, and knowledge sharing. Mentor team members, conduct performance evaluations, and identify opportunities for professional growth.


Continuous Improvement:
Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in BI and data management. Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and innovation to enhance operational efficiency, data accuracy, and user experience.


Technical Infrastructure Management:
Manage the relationship with the technical infrastructure teams that support the BI function. Ensure high availability, scalability, and security of the infrastructure to meet business needs.


Financial Management:
Prepare and manage costs budget for development and maintenance work for the portfolio.


Reporting and Analytics Solutions:
Lead the support of BI reporting and analytics solutions. Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate them into actionable insights and reports.

Acts as a leader who coaches and supports Agile teams assigned to mainly Business as Usual (BAU) work and to a lesser degree, important department initiatives and applicable portions of corporate projects and initiatives.

Gets team to a high performing level by recognizing areas of strength and improvement and employing appropriate coaching and development techniques.

Role Requirements:


Qualifications:

An Appropriate IT Qualification (Diploma/Degree) will be a strong recommendation.
Strong delivery and project management knowledge
Financial acumen in budgeting and management of IT costs to business unit/s
Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities
Outstanding communication, facilitation, negotiation, and coaching skills


Knowledge and Experience:

Bachelor's degree and 4 years of product or project development experience, or 3 years of project development experience on an Agile Team or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
Experience in leading a team of software developers, or data engineers and analysts.
Experience in managing services provided by 3rd party vendors.
Demonstrated experience facilitating meetings at multiple levels of an organization and an understanding of facilitation techniques.
