Job Title: BIM Specialist

Purpose of the Role:

The University of Fort Hare seeks a highly skilled BIM Specialist to oversee the successful implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes for our operational facilities. The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure seamless coordination and data integrity.

Main Functions of the Job:

Develop and Implement BIM Standards: Develop, publish, and implement BIM standards, protocols, and processes based on best practices.
Training and Development: Ensure team members and relevant stakeholders are trained in the BIM use, standards, protocols, processes, and best practices relevant to their respective roles.
BIM Model Management: Ensure that models and design data are reviewed, coordinated, and verified as conforming to our BIM Standards and Best Practices.
Troubleshooting and Consultation: Facilitate consultation between colleagues, external professional consultants, and clients to resolve technical problems.
Data Fidelity: Work closely with internal teams and independent architects to maintain as-built data fidelity for existing facilities.
Document Control: Work with the Infrastructure Management Department Document Controllers to ensure the successful migration of as-built and handover data.
BIM Workflow Management: Establish effective BIM workflows to manage collaborative work between departments.
Process Evaluation and Improvement: Evaluate and implement new BIM tools and technologies for continuous improvement.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor and report on BIM process performance to aid in continuous development and improvement.
Supply Chain Vendor Engagement: Aid in propagating our BIM Best Practices to the supply chain vendors.
Design Coordination: Aid in performing architectural design and coordination functions as needed.

BIM Knowledge: Strong knowledge of BIM Standards, protocols, and best practices.
Model Linking: Solid understanding of linking models generated from different resources.
Leadership and Project Management: Leadership and project management skills.

Communication and Technical Skills: Good communication and technical skills.
Problem-Solving Abilities: Active listening and proactive problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications and Experience:

Minimum Qualifications: Professional Architectural Technologist (B.Tech Arch Tech) or equivalent.
BIM Software Certification: Autodesk Suite of CAD Software certified with minimum 5 years' experience with Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), and BIM360.
Training and Instruction: Autodesk Certified Instructor and/or experience in training resources in Autodesk products.
Management Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years management experience in managing a team.
BIM Best Practices: Familiarity with international BIM Best Practices.
