    Engineering Specialist - Water Department

    An Engineering Firm in Krugersdorp is seeking to employ an Engineering Specialist in their Water Department. The successful candidate must have extensive experience and a strong academic background.

    The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

    • A minimum of 20 years' experience in a relevant engineering environment.
    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (B. Eng or B.Sc. Eng).
    • Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng).

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Promote employee engagement practices, including recognition, empowerment, feedback, partnering, expectations, consideration, and trust.
    • Perform work in accordance with the Company's Quality Management System (QMS), Policies and Standards.
    • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior staff.
    • Sign off designs and drawings as a responsible professional engineer.
    • Conduct feasibility studies, options analysis, and master planning.
    • Develop Scope of Work for projects in consultation with clients or independently.
    • Collaborate with consultants/specialists on major technical support areas.
    • Represent the Business Unit on local industry groups when required.
    • Implement standardization, planning, and best practice initiatives aligned with global and regional engineering practices.
    • Establish design tools, software, relevant codes, and standards for projects.
    • Assign work tasks and monitor progress and quality continuously.
    • Schedule, coordinate, and participate in engineering design reviews.
    • Maintain ethical and professional practices in the execution of engineering work.
    • Participate in staff development through mentoring, training material, conducting seminars, and performance appraisal input and counselling.
    • Apply Quality Assurance policies.
    • Provide input to contract negotiations and business plans.
    • Collaborate with design teams during design, procurement, and post-award procedures to meet budget and programme deadlines.
    • Closely work with construction monitoring teams and contractors during construction phases to ensure timely completion within budget and programme.
    • Prepare and manage technical reports, designs, cost estimates, procurement documentation, bills of quantities, technical specifications, contract documentation, as-built drawings, and operation and maintenance manuals.
    • Attend site visits and meetings.

    Desired Experience & Qualification

    Experience:

    A minimum of 20 years' experience in a relevant engineering environment.

    Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering (B. Eng or B.Sc. Eng).

    Registrations:

    Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng).

    Skills:

    • Advanced project management skills, including finance and administration.
    • Good planning, organising, and analytical skills.
    • Good problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent leadership abilities and ability to delegate and direct staff.
    • Excellent understanding of engineering design procedures and processes.
    • Specialist skills in one or more fields, gained through experience and/or further studies/research.
    • Advanced understanding of engineering concepts and application of knowledge.
    • Excellent understanding of industry codes and standards.
    • Excellent understanding of relevant legislation and regulations.
    • Good understanding of at least two primary General Conditions of Contract (GCC, FIDIC, NEC, JBCC).
    • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, management, clients, contractors, visitors, etc.
    • Excellent technical report writing skills.
    • Ability to manage and direct multiple design teams.
