    Key Position Overview

    The Centre for Environmental Human Rights seeks a highly experienced Head of Communication to lead and manage its strategic communications efforts.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • A relevant degree in journalism, communications, English, media studies or a similar field is essential.
    • At least 5 years of experience in a senior communications management role, preferably in the non-profit sector.
    • Proven expertise in traditional media relations, including established networks and relationships, with a strong focus on community media relations.
    • Experience in designing organisational and campaign communication strategies for diverse audiences.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with fluency in Zulu or other Nguni languages an added advantage.
    • A solid understanding of digital media communication platforms, tools, guidelines, policies, etc.
    • Proficiency in MS Suite, WordPress, social media, video editing, SEO, analytics, etc.
    • Budget planning and management experience.
    • A deep sensitivity to social and environmental issues, as well as a passion for social and environmental justice.
    • A commitment to diversity, inclusion, and transformation.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Strategic Leadership: Provide expert guidance on communications strategy, brand messaging, and media relations.
    • Implementation Planning: Oversee project deliverables, manage campaign execution, and collaborate with stakeholders.
    • Communications Management: Develop and maintain the organisation's online presence, monitor news trends, produce reports, and ensure branding consistency.
    • Nurturing Relationships: Foster key stakeholder partnerships, grow advocacy work, and manage the public profile.
    • Management and Financial Stewardship: Contribute to achieving organisational objectives, manage departmental budgets, and service level agreements.
    • Human Resources: Lead and develop the communications team, identify areas for growth, and provide training and mentorship.
    • Risk Management: Identify crisis management strategies, manage digital assets, and contribute to policy formulation.

    Compensation Package:

    The estimated salary range for this position is between R668,785 - R705,940 per annum, depending on qualifications, expertise, and experience.
