Main Purpose of the Job: To provide strategic, operational, and financial leadership to the NGO ensuring the organisation's long-term sustainability and commitment to promoting animal welfare.

The General Manager will be responsible for driving the mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals while fostering strong relationships with stakeholders managing a dedicated team and ensuring sound financial practices and legislative compliance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop strategies that align with the organisation's mission to advocate for animal welfare including rescue rehabilitation rehoming and education programs.
2. Develop an effective fundraising strategy to secure resources and support the organisation's goals.
3. Identify opportunities for sustainable business growth and development to ensure the NGO's continued success.
4. Develop plans to prepare the organisation and its Team for the future by anticipating challenges and seizing opportunities.
5. Evaluate and motivate investments in equipment infrastructure and people to support objectives and drive results.
6. Develop and implement Employment Equity Plans for a diverse equitable and inclusive workforce to foster a culture of respect and inclusivity.

Organisational Effectiveness

1. Implement innovative changes to bring continuous improvement in operations and animal welfare resulting in enhanced efficiency and productivity.
2. Establish and maintain a motivated productive and committed work environment that supports the organisation's mission and values.
3. Prioritise set manage and meet project timelines to ensure timely delivery and achievement of goals.
4. Supervise and manage a Fundraiser ensuring fundraising targets are met and resources are allocated effectively.
5. Oversee the smooth running of operations ensuring alignment with the organisation's mission and vision.
6. Evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of business processes and systems to identify areas for improvement.
7. Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholder groups including donors partners and community members.

Financial Management and Reporting

1. Establish a realistic balanced annual budget ensuring financial sustainability and resource allocation.
2. Monitor grant funding ensuring transparency and compliance with donor expectations and regulatory requirements.
3. Monitor financial performance and take corrective action as needed to maintain financial stability.
4. Implement tight financial control measures and ensure sound financial processes and practices are in place compliant with legislative requirements.
5. Provide quarterly financial reports to the Board to ensure transparency and accountability.
6. Oversee the annual audit and the sign-off of financials within the required timeframe to ensure accuracy and compliance.
7. Manage memberships and Annual General Meetings to engage stakeholders and promote the organisation's mission.

Risk and Compliance

1. Ensure legislative compliance including but not limited to company law animal welfare regulations health and safety standards BEE and Employment Equity legislation and employment legislation.
2. Monitor compliance with regulations specific to non-profit organisations and animal care standards to prevent non-compliance and reputational risk.
3. Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies particularly in the areas of animal care and public engagement to protect the organisation and its stakeholders.

Team Leadership

1. Lead by example fostering a culture of compassion continuous improvement and teamwork to inspire and motivate the Team.
2. Structure and develop the workforce to meet current and future organisational needs through effective recruitment and talent management.
3. Establish clear roles and responsibilities and enforce policies and procedures to ensure accountability and efficiency.
4. Foster a positive inclusive working environment that supports the mission and values of the NGO to promote job satisfaction and well-being.
5. Drive performance and take corrective action in cases of transgressions or poor performance to maintain high standards and achieve goals.
6. Always be courteous and polite to colleagues clients and service providers and engender a spirit of mutual respect in the workplace to promote collaboration and communication.
