WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The
Chief / Senior Technician is responsible to act as task, element or technical manager on development projects.

The incumbent is also responsible for the acquisition of components and subsystems for tests, from technical communication with potential suppliers to recommending companies with the matching capabilities, loading of requisitions, follow up on schedule commitments and overseeing compliance of incoming inspection.

Oversee assembly activities and build history of products; and assist with execution of, and reporting on development tests.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for manufacturing and assembly of prototype hardware for development projects.
  • Assist with the identification of suitable suppliers, obtain quotes, and generate requisitions.
  • Liaise and coordinate with contracted manufacturers and suppliers to manage procurement of components and subassemblies.
  • Liaise and/or coordinate with RDM support functions to expedite procurement of components and subassemblies (Procurement, Quality, Transport, etc.).
  • Assembly of prototypes according to Safety and QA requirements and make recommendations for improvements and optimisation.
  • Compile supporting documentation (Build History, C of C's, Work programs etc.).
  • Assist with Product and Process Development.
  • Contribute technically to the product design, and reviewmanufacturing drawings with regard to design for manufacturability (attend meetings, review documentation, etc.).
  • Recommend/Select suitable manufacturing processes for approval by Design Authority.
  • Generate Product Manufacturing Instructions & Work Programs & Review Component Drawings.
  • Participate in FMECA activities/process.
  • Support Test and Evaluation Activities.
  • Ensure that test equipment and hardware is ready, and set up for development tests.
  • Ensure that tasks are completed in accordance with test documentation and comply with regulatory, policy, and explosive safety requirements.
  • Design / Manufacture / Procure special tooling and test equipment.
  • Assist and provide inputs with the generation of tooling drawings (using Drawing Office).
  • Assist with the Manufacture of ad hoc tooling/test items.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE

  • National Higher Diploma in Mechanical / Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent.
  • BTech in Mechanical / Mechatronic Engineering would be advantageous.
  • Certification / Diploma in Project and/or Procurement, Acquisition Management and Systems Engineering would be advantageous.
  • At least 5 years' experience in a product development environment in a hightech industry.
  • Demonstrated component and product acquisition experience.
  • Experience in electronic assembly and fine mechanics design / assembly and integration.
  • Experience in directing manufacturing processes and final assembly of products.
  • Extensive experience with drawing office and Configuration Management (Teamcenter).
  • The use of CAD and 3D modelling software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with initiative and make decisions under pressure.
  • Diligent, systematic and organised approach to tasks.
  • Ability to multitask within specific engineering discipline.
  • Ability to coordinate activities of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good leadership, motivational and negotiation capabilities.
  • Teamwork, conflict resolution and motivational skills.
  • Good 3D CAD modelling skills (SolidEdge experience preferred) within a Product Lifecycle Management environment (Siemens Teamcenter experience preferred).
  • Proficient at mechanical and electronic assembly/integration.
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing technologies.
  • Proficient at writing technical reports as required during various phases of the product development process.
  • Fundamental computer literacy: MS Office packages (Excel, Word, Outlook), online collaboration tools e.g. Webex Meetings.
  • Fundamental knowledge on the handling of energetic and explosive materials will be advantageous.
