    Description

    A large, diversified office automation business with offices and reach across South Africa, is looking to employ an experienced financial controller to be based at their Cape Town offices.

    This is an exciting and challenging role as the incumbent will be responsible for the finance functions of the divisions, but also drive more analytical and operational aspects such as cashflow forecasting, financial modeling and feasibility analysis of projects, profit return calculations, deal discounting calculations, etc.

    This person will hold a tertiary finance qualification and though a membership to a professional body is not required, will be beneficial. Experience in a financial accounting, controlling, management or similar role is required.

    Purpose of the Role:

    As a Financial Controller, you will play a key role in steering the financial operations toward continued success. Your expertise in managing accounting practices, budgeting processes, and financial planning will ensure the company's financial integrity and drive strategic decisions to foster business growth and maximum profitability.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Finance

    • Overseeing Accounting Operations: Manage all aspects, including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
    • Responsible Banking and Cashbook processing & Petty Cash recons.
    • Leading Budget and Financial Forecasts: Direct the preparation of budget and financial forecasts, reporting on variances.
    • Compilation and publishing of Monthly Management Accounts.
    • Ensure timely preparation and delivery of Annual Financial Statements.
    • Handling Statutory / Regulatory Reporting: Coordinate all aspects of business requirements.
    • Quality Control Over Transactions and Reporting: Oversee and ensure the integrity of financial transactions and reports.
    • Managing Tax Filings: Stay compliant with all government reporting requirements and tax obligations.
    • Developing Business Processes and Policies: Create and document policies and procedures to strengthen internal controls.
    • Assign, monitor, and coordinate assignments (plan and organise work).
    • Determine training needs and identify training courses for direct reports.
    • Career development for direct reports (counselling, coaching, identify KPA's, career planning, goal setting).
    • Evaluate the performance of employees (conduct performance appraisals).
    • Handle labour relations issues (e.g., disciplinary hearings).
    • Provide technical, procedural and policy guidance to the group companies.
    • Handling all aspects of Insurance cover/claims for the companies, including annual renewals.
    • Maintain/update the Fixed Asset Registers to track deprecation entries.
    • Maintain/update the Vehicle Amortization schedules.

    Reporting

    • Analyse and interpret financial data and recommend changes to improve systems and financial performance.
    • Assess financial components (e.g., revenue, expense, operating income and expenses, net income, capex, and cash flows) of all departments and companies.
    • Manage the company's fixed assets. Ensure assets are loaded onto the financial system correctly, and that they are depreciated correctly and can be physically verified from the system to the physical location.

    Financial Analysis

    • Responsible for project financial analysis, exploring feasibilities, profit returns, risks etc.
    • Navigate the dynamic world of Cash Flow, guiding forecasts, and ensuring funding aligns seamlessly.
    • Lead the charge in audits, maintaining precise trial balances, and driving system enhancements.
    • Infuse an efficiency mindset, providing insightful and diverse reporting.
    • Reconciling sales and accounting systems, oversee payroll intricacies, and manage journal entries.
    • Support Business leaders and handle any ad hoc challenges.
    • Management of the Deal Discounting Position.

    Qualifications:

    • BCom Accounting, Finance or similar degree.
    • Professional qualifications such as CA(SA), PA(SA), CGMA/ACMA, or similar will be an advantage, but not required.

    Experience:

    • Experience required as finance controller or similar role.
    • Knowledgeable in Accounting Principles and all statutory requirements.
    • Skilled in creating financial statements and familiar with general ledger functions.
    • Tech-Savvy in Accounting Software, preferably Pastel, Sage and Xero.
    • Advanced Excel with knowledge of financial modeling, pivot tables, finance formulae etc.
    • Microsoft Office Suite.

    Remuneration:

    • R420,000 to R540,000 pa cost to company, depending on experience.
