What will you do?

  • We have an exciting opportunity available for a
    Junior Underwriter (Accident and Health) based in Illovo, Sandton.
    What will make you successful in this role?

Key responsibilities include:


Underwriting and Monitoring Duties:


  • Underwrite new business, which may be complex in nature, including all tasks associated therewith but not limited to risk evaluation and assessment, coverage analysis, pricing and wording negotiations within underwriting authority.
  • Refer and acquire signoff relating to matters falling outside of own authority, in accordance with authority matrix.
  • Analyse claims experience.
  • Follow up on new business quotes done
  • Inperson engagement with strategic broker partners on high value / complex renewals
  • Daily administration of Binders and Outsourcing Agreements
  • In conjunction with Business Head and Underwriting Head, reviewing and underwriting of binders and outsource arrangements rates to ensure the profitability and governance of these structured solutions
  • Auditing of these arrangements on a Quarterly basis, or as agreed per Agreement, to ensure compliance with agreed rates, wording and conditions.
  • Auditing on a yearly basis with Santam Niche Compliance
  • Undertake Client Liaison meeting on a regular basis
  • Attend to and keep general filing up to date.
  • Marketing
  • Visit brokers to discuss renewals and new business with a focus to build relationships and develop market presence.
  • Feedback on market intelligence.
  • Broker/Client Product Specific Training and Presentations

Client Liaison (Internal and External):


  • Respond to queries and resolve to the satisfaction of the affected parties within the scope of authority and / or responsibility.
  • Liaise with Santam Niche Regulatory and Santam Group Compliance.
  • Manage and maintain successful business relationships with relevant clients.
  • Ensure that clients are provided with consistent superior service and products.
  • Handle and resolve all relevant client queries within authority levels and liaise with service providers where appropriate.
  • Work in conjunction with all internal resources and support structures to achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Work closely with Niche Regulatory

Financial:


  • Meet budget responsibility for a book of business.
  • Monitor renewals, lapsed policies and new business with monthly report back.

Strategic Input:


  • Provide strategic input for relevant business area if and when required.

General Administration:


  • Draw standard reports if and when required
  • Handle accounts queries where required.
  • Attend to daily administrative routine tasks in accordance with organisational standards, processes, procedures and mandates
  • Attend to the typing of general correspondence if and when necessary.

Qualification & Experience

  • 3 years Underwriting experience
  • Non-Life Insurer Compliance experience in a compliance role preferable
  • Knowledge / Experience (This is not a trainee position and A&H or related product knowledge a preference.)
  • Facultative Reinsurance Experience
  • Matric
  • Insurance related qualification or current studies a preference

  • COB Commercial certified
