    Key Purpose
  • The purpose of the role is to assist the senior actuary with the valuation responsibilities for Discovery Corporate and Employee Benefits. The key tasks for the role include monthly experience reporting, quarterly regulatory reporting, semiannual valuation reporting and various actuarial analytics projects. This work involves analysing and giving input on key actuarial metrics to assist in management decision making and working with teams across the business to help improve different aspects of the product offering.
    Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to
  • Report on monthly actuarial experience for ongoing monitoring of the business and to inform management decisions
  • Semiannual, in depth, experience analyses to assist with setting assumptions
  • Valuation reporting and embedded value calculations to be included in the semiannual financial reports
  • Quarterly and annual regulatory reporting
  • Develop and maintain existing valuation and reporting models
  • Enhance existing processes
  • Maintaining and updating data controls and systems
  • Working with other teams across the business to improve data and client experience metrics

Education and Experience

Essential:


  • Matric with mathematics
  • Bachelor's / Honours degree in Actuarial Science or Mathematical Statistics from an accredited institution
  • Strong actuarial exam progress
  • SQL or other coding experience

Advantageous:


  • Honours in Actuarial Science
  • CT1 and CT5 exemption, or equivalent
  • At least 1 years of working experience as an Actuarial Analyst within the Life Insurance or Employee Benefits space.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook.
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work with large and complex data sets
  • Strong probem solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in SQL
