    Role Purpose/Business Unit:

    Lead an engineering team responsible for the development of a renewable energy deployment strategy and technology blueprint under the Vodacom Group Center of Excellent for Energy Management as domain experts, supporting the localised adoption and execution of the strategy and plan

    Your responsibilities will include:

  • Accountable for the development of a technology blueprint supporting the strategy, objectives and targets of Vodacom Group Energy Performance and Center of Excellence.
  • Own the execution of the localised implementation plan, providing support and assistance through your domain expert(s)
  • Lead the development renewable energy and sustainable business solutions based on local market design and legislative requirements.
  • Drive the investigation of new and novel energy solutions to existing problems, delivering of proof of concepts to support the selection of technology and solutions to fulfil the objectives and targets of Vodacom Group as well as Vodafone.
  • Steer the development of policies and procedures to inform operations support on issues related to the setup, configuration, maintenance and operation of renewable technology to maximize renewable energy yield and performance.
  • Enable the deployment and integration of digital systems into designs to deliver continuous improvement through enhanced tracking and visibility of technology performance.
  • Maintain and update renewable energy plans
  • Enable business decision making through sound engineering principles to ensure cost optimisation and improved energy performance.
  • Maintain and manage the selection of vendors to support delivering the renewable energy technology. Develop detailed technical specification in support of Supply Chain Management.
  • Support any Vodacom Business offerings related to renewable energy systems or solutions.
  • Manage stakeholders across Vodacom Group and Vodafone.
  • The Ideal candidate for this role will have:

    Must have technical / professional qualifications:

  • A four-year bachelor's Degree ( Sc) in engineering (preferably electrical) or equivalent to NQF level 8
  • preferred.
  • Core competencies, knowledge, and experience:

  • Extensive, experience, designing and developing power engineering solutions with an emphasis on renewable energy solutions and technology.
  • Minimum 10 year experience in the development of reports and the design and scoping of technical solutions within an internal and project management environment.
  • Fundamental understanding of the different mechanisms to achieve net-zero status, including Power Purchase Agreements,
  • Renewable Energy Certificates, Microgrids and on-site renewable deployments such as photovoltaic and wind turbine systems.
  • Knowledge of a typical telecommunication setup, including significant energy users
  • .

  • Working knowledge of the operational requirements to ensure technology performance and maximum energy yield.
  • Experience designing and managing diesel generators, fuel cells and microturbines
  • Experience designing and managing battery systems – both small and utility scale.
  • Experience managing and designing power systems, including medium voltage switchgear, cables and protection (including a fundamental understanding of the best selection of switchgear for sustainability).
  • Experience designing and selecting DC-DC converters, DC-AC inverters, DC systems and protection as well as UPS and redundant power systems.
  • Experience managing teams and stakeholders, up and down in the organisation
