Meat Buyer - Durban - Indian Ocean Export Company

Description

We are seeking a seasoned Meat Buyer to join our Procurement team at our Durban offices.

Purpose of the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for purchasing meat products (pork, beef, chicken, lamb, and fish) for export, ensuring compliance with South African and international regulations. This includes conducting inspections, managing relationships with suppliers, and negotiating market support.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement purchasing strategies for fresh and frozen meat exports.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and new suppliers.
• Negotiate favorable market terms and conditions.
• Oversee cost management throughout the supply chain, from livestock to final product.
• Monitor order execution and supplier adherence to protocols.
• Perform physical inspections and loading activities.
• Serve as liaison between IOEC, export authorities, and suppliers.
• Collaborate with PPECB inspectors and veterinary department to ensure accurate documentation.
• Negotiate pricing and payment terms with suppliers.
• Identify and develop new business opportunities.
• Resolve issues and settle claims with suppliers.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Exceptional knowledge of meat products, including grades and cuts.
• Familiarity with the meat export process.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, with purchasing expertise.
• An established network of meat suppliers.
• Familiarity with South African import regulations for meat is a plus.
