Purpose:
To turn client requirements into manufacturable, quality products and to give technical support to the innovations process.

The incumbent is responsible for the technical development of all packaging materials and the successful execution thereof at suppliers and during production.

This happens within a well-structured innovations process.

Minimum Requirements:

Diploma in Packaging Technology or relevant tertiary education
Project Management Diploma
At least 5 years' relevant experience
Computer literate (MS Word, Excel, Power Point ,SAP)
Basic Cost Accounting skills
Valid code 08 driver's license

Skills Required:

Good negotiation skills
Excellent problem solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Good time management skills
Experience in client service and liaison with external companies.
Experience in specifications and Configuration Management.
Excellent technical knowledge in the area of packaging materials and design thereof.
Experience in research and development work on packaging materials
Experience in manufacturability investigations with Production and Suppliers
Must not be colour blind
Good knowledge of the principles of Project Management
Team player, functioning in multidisciplinary teams

Job Summary:

The technical development of new packaging materials, as part of new product concepts, in collaboration with all internal stake holders.
Managing all interfaces between packaging and intrinsic product and between different packaging materials.
Manage the supplier interface regarding new packaging material developments.
Set up and manage all packaging material specifications
Confirm technical design correctness and give feedback to designers and Marketing during concept development.
Confirm the technical setup of new artwork, in collaboration with the suppliers, with feedback to the designer.
Coordinate manufacturability investigations with Production and suppliers.
Manage first round quotations from suppliers for all new materials and subsequent allocation of new work, taking into account supplier's technical capabilities.
Manage the feasibility investigations into new products within a formalised costing process
Support to the Project Manager by giving feedback on required actions against specific time lines.
Manage colour passes at suppliers and come up with proposals of how to achieve the desired end result.
Provide technical support to packaging department in case of problem situations and assist with problem solving.
Ensure that all potential problems have been eliminated at the concept development stage, before it is handed over to the Project Manager for execution.
Assist in ensuring legal compliance of packaging materials
Continuous research into global new developments in area of packaging materials and to introduce these to the internal roll players
Continuous investigations into cost saving and improvement opportunities
