The Western Cape Blood Service is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to collect, process and distribute blood and blood products of the highest standards in the Western Cape.


Job Description:


  • To ensure that all staff occupational health and safety related work policy documents in the workplace are kept up to date
  • To conduct physical examinations, screening tests and diagnose common medical conditions and chronic ill health presented at staff health
  • To assess and manage any medical emergencies and workrelated injuries within the workplace
  • To Complete and submit all documentation relating to the Compensation of Injuries on Duty (COID) cases
  • To Follow up all workrelated incidents/accidents and assists with the implementation of corrective action, if appropriate.
  • Accurate recording of Injury on Duty statistics and reporting for authorization by the Health & Safety Committee
  • Conduct occupation specific screening tests in line with medical screening program
  • To actively participate in the management of highrisk occupational health related cases
  • To manage the ordering, distribution and usage of medication stock
  • Actively promote staff health and wellbeing in the work place

  • Must be comfortable interacting with individuals from various departments
  • Have a friendly disposition and willingness to advocate for the employee and employer in the workplace
  • Be "Staff Health Centric"Have a good understanding of staff health and wellbeing and the importance thereof
  • Have a good understanding of the OHSA (Occupational Health and Safety Act)
  • Must be able to plan and manage healthcare strategies within the work environment
  • Understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality of health information in accordance with professional codes, statutes and regulations
  • Punctuality is essential as the clinic operates strictly from 08h00—16h00
  • To be contactable during clinic hours
  • Accuracy in data collection and strong data analysis skills
  • Attention to detail is paramount
Minimum Requirements

  • 5 year post Professional Nurse Qualification, experience in an Occupational Health environment would be an advantage
  • Occupational Health Nursing degree (BTech 2 year)
  • Spirometry qualification & experience will be an advantage
  • Valid registration with SANC
  • Computer literate with strong excel skills
  • A valid and unendorsed code 08 driver's license
  • Reliable transport
