DISASTER RESPONSE PROGRAM MANAGER
We seek a motivated and strategic Disaster Response Program Manager for the implementation of

HSI Africa's global disaster strategy. The work entails targeting all elements of the natural disaster cycle including mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.

The role requires developing relationships and positioning HSI with external partners and agencies; creating preparedness and response plans with inter-agency stakeholders; and engaging with communities to improve disaster resilience and risk reduction for relevant animal populations.

In coordination with the global disaster team, expand HSI's capacity to respond directly to disasters through partnerships and development of a regional team.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborate with agencies, organizations and communities to improve disaster response for animals in underserved communities.
• Coordinate and oversee HSI's rescue and response efforts
• Build and expand capacity through partnerships, recruitment and training programs.
• Oversee design, development and implementation of the disaster response program.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• An undergraduate degree in emergency management or relevant field or qualified professional certificate in smaller fields.
• Minimum of three years' experience in disaster relief or crisis response, preferably with animals.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• English and at least 1 other local language
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook)
• A strong teamorientated mentality
• Ability to operate independently and exercise sound judgement
• Strong interest in Animal Protection is preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Preferably based in Cape Town with domestic and possibly international travel
• Work long hours during at times or during disaster periods
• Work outside in variable weather conditions with a variety of animals at times

Salary:
R375, R500,000.00 per year
