Engineering Manager Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engineering Manager to lead our manufacturing department. As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for providing technical guidance and leadership in maintenance to ensure maximum plant availability and design capacity.

Key Responsibilities

Contribute to the development of maintenance philosophy, plans, goals, and KPIs.
Drive performance management, focusing on rewarding strong performance and compliance with critical behaviors.
Oversee planning and execution of maintenance activities, boiler operations, and front-end operations to ensure safety, efficiency, quality control, budgetary control, service, and cost-effective resource management.
Achieve shift, daily, weekly, monthly maintenance targets against business/operational goals and objectives by prioritizing tasks logically, systematically, and cost-effectively.
Drive reliability by making informed trade-offs and driving initiatives that deliver the greatest possible output and quality levels in line with objectives.
Report on performance in line with KPIs and key adverse or positive developments to the Factory Head.
Develop and manage all maintenance budgets, liaising with finance business partner and optimization team in line with company timetables.
Evaluate and continuously improve equipment maintenance strategies to achieve maximum mechanical availability and equipment capacity cost-effectively.
Ensure maintenance teams leverage available support from within the factory and company (HO and other countries) across all disciplines.
Identify off-crop & stop day work and oversee planning, scheduling, implementation, and progress monitoring of maintenance activities.
Adopt and embed agreed best practices, frameworks, and minimum standards for planned maintenance as guided by the company program.
Manage technical standards, MOPS, TOPS, process specifications, best practices, and policies.
Identify areas where maintenance, equipment performance, and quality management can be improved and implement systems and processes to make improvements.
Establish and lead problem-solving approaches throughout the function and cross-functionally to identify and address problems and improvement opportunities.
Develop capability on the job and hold teams accountable for performance.
Implement effective risk mitigation measures to reduce quality incidents to zero major or repeat findings during audits and inspections.
Identify areas where quality, safety, and food safety management can be improved and implement systems and processes to make improvements.
Set direction, implement, and monitor effective team communication processes to drive best maintenance practices supporting stable operations and sustained reliability performance.
Lead and execute the company program, agreed preventative/preemptive maintenance processes, and CMMS practices on site.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with key maintenance & engineering service providers.
Maintain adherence to group risk and assurance standards and requirements through robust governance processes.
Ensure maintenance reporting is compliant with company policy and procedure.
Provide input into business cases for key capital projects and support delivery, ensuring required economic and desired outcomes are delivered.
Monitor and track performance using identified KPIs and flag any issues.
Promote and adhere to company procedures, policies, and guidelines, including those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).

Minimum Specifications / Requirement Areas

Degree or equivalent in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
8+ years experience in manufacturing machinery maintenance.
Government Certificate of Competence (GCC) - Factories.
Continuous improvement knowledge and experience.
Familiarity with Illovo systems would be an advantage (Maximo)/SAP.
