    Solar Installation and Maintenance Technician, South Africa

    Reporting To: Quality Control Manager, Operations

    Description

    At Sun King, we are looking for a qualified and motivated Solar Installation Technician to drive the adoption of clean energy solutions in South Africa.

    The successful candidate will be accountable for solar installations, from site assessment to system activation, ensuring compliance with all South African safety regulations and standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct site assessments to determine suitability for solar panel installation.
    • Assist in designing and planning solar system installations based on customer needs and roof specifications.
    • Install racking, solar panels, electrical components, and wiring, ensuring proper functionality and safety.
    • Perform electrical wiring and grounding according to code requirements.
    • Test and validate the installation and verify performance and efficiency.
    • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all installation and maintenance activities.

    Requirements

    • National Certificate in Electrical Trades (N3) or equivalent qualification.
    • One Phase Wiremen's License (compulsory requirement).
    • Minimum 2 years' experience in solar panel installation or a related field.
    • Knowledge of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and their components.
    • Working knowledge of electrical fundamentals, SANS Wiring Code (SANS 10142-1), and South African safety regulations (NRF, SANS IEC 60038).
    • Able to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
    • Experience working at heights and in various weather conditions.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Candidate Engineering Technician (CET).
    • Experience with different types of roofing materials.
