    Head of Sports and Physical Education

    We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Sports and Physical Education to lead our team at hr-genie. This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated and inspiring individual to shape the future of sports and physical education in Zambia.

    Main Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement coherent schemes of learning that align with PE policies and cater to diverse learners.
    • Create engaging assessment systems, oversee moderation, and utilize data to inform teaching strategies.
    • Promote innovative teaching methods that foster student interest in PE and Sport.
    • Enhance student participation and performance through quality extracurricular programs, comprehensive training, and competition preparation.
    • Foster high standards of behavior and achievement, ensuring inclusivity and celebrating success.
    • Support staff development through mentoring, professional growth opportunities, and performance management.
    • Lead by example, promoting a collaborative and supportive departmental culture.
    • Plan and manage departmental budgets, allocate resources equitably, and maintain facilities and assets.
    • Develop and implement improvement plans aligned with school goals.
    • Ensure safe departmental activities, with staff trained and compliant with health and safety procedures.
    • BUILD STRONG COLLEGIAL RELATIONSHIPS within the department, allocate responsibilities based on strengths, and support staff through tailored professional development plans.
    • Oversee induction programs for new and trainee teachers.
    • Collaborate with school leadership to design and implement a comprehensive termly program of sporting afternoon activities.
    • Maintain clear communication with students, families, and stakeholders via school MIS.
    • Compile and share weekly PE and Sports Update with the community.
    • Liaise regularly with Principals regarding events and curriculum development.
    • Organize sports events, liaise with external organizations, and manage fixtures while ensuring effective communication and logistics.

    Requirements:

    • Able to motivate and inspire both students and staff.
    • Ability to think creatively, solve problems, and introduce innovative approaches within the role.
    • Demonstrate excellent leadership skills to develop and maintain high-quality departmental provision.
    • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining high levels of energy, enthusiasm, and resilience.
    • Excellent communication skills, with a sense of humor and strong interpersonal abilities to build positive relationships.
    • High sense of confidentiality and professionalism.
    • Ambitious, committed to continuous self-improvement, and dedicated to personal and professional growth.
    • A highly competent and reflective individual who is proactive in adapting and improving.

    Qualifications:

    • Undergraduate Degree in teaching Physical Education/Sports.
    • A Master's degree would be preferable.
    • Registered TCZ and or QTS.
    • Additional qualifications relevant to the role.
    • At least three (3) years in a similar role with proven leadership skills.
    • Strong track record as an excellent Physical Education and Sports practitioner with the ability to inspire high levels of student performance.
    • Experience in writing effective Schemes of Learning in line with international best practices, using data to inform teaching strategies, and using self-evaluation to drive continuous improvement.
    • Demonstrated ability to support colleagues at various stages of their professional development, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
