BACKGROUND
A vacancy exists for the position of Centre Manager for the above-mentioned incubator.
The incubator, located at Mpophomeni, Howick, develops, supports and nurtures emerging, small and medium-sized township-based businesses (a mix of industries: tourism, services, agriculture, etc).
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- responsible for developing, in association with the Board, the strategic vision of the Centre
- translating this strategic vision into operational implementation within the annual performance plan and reporting on this implementation to the Board.
- responsible for compliance to all statutory regulations, including the Public Finance Management Act, Basic Conditions of Employment, Health and Safety acts, as well achieved SABS SATS 2234:2020 (Business Incubator) and ISO 9001:2015 standards for the Incubator
- develop and adjust company policies and procedures according to strategic decisions. Responsible to motivate budgets, compile, approve and monitor expenses within the guidelines of GAAP, PFMA and funding requirements.
- developing, mentoring and managing staff to independently deliver on their responsibilities of supporting the objectives of the Centre.
- overall responsible for the annual business plan and budget, the mentoring, support, development and regulating of performance of SMMEs.
- Implementing and reporting back on projects
- Responsible for building contacts with the private sector, provincial and local government, other government initiatives which are aimed at supporting SMMEs, Universities, TVET colleges, Adult Education Colleges, Research & Development Institutions and Community Based Organizations.
- responsible for sourcing additional funding for the incubator by establishing partnerships or strategic alliances with local and international institutions.
- ensuring a pipeline of new clients and all contracts and obligations pertaining to them. Also, to monitor their performance and ensure donor's performance targets are attained.
- Develop and implement the marketing strategy for the Centre to become an incubator of excellence.
Experience and Qualifications
- Be in possession of a suitable financial/ business management qualification, honours level (mandatory)
- Have at least 5 years proven experience of managing a business or commercially oriented NPO, preferably within the business development and support environment
- A seasoned enterprise development practitioner is required (who can work independently), with a proven track record in development of business opportunities for small enterprises
- Be in possession of minimum 8 years business development/ business advisory/ mentorship/ coaching experience (particularly community/ rural business development experience)
- Provide proof of thinking strategically and working with a highlevel Board
- Must have strong experience in advising both startup and established business alike, with strong understand of the local SMME development landscape
- Ensure compliance of the incubator to SATS 2234:2020 standards for Incubators, ISO 9001:2015 and PFMA
Other Attributes:
- Able to write business/ funding plans for startup/ existing businesses
- Excellent strategic development, organizational development, project management and management control skills
- Excellent financial acumen and financial budgeting skills
- Credible network of contacts in some or all of industry, business, government and tertiary institutes
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and experience with respect to various level of stakeholder engagements, as well as partnerships development
- Strong people management skills
- Be in possession of very strong reportwriting, reporting and presentation skills
- Very strong computer literacy (MS Office)
- Be willing to travel to meet stakeholders and clients, as and when required (driver's licence and own vehicle mandatory)
- A knowledge of funding opportunities for small businesses by National Government and other agencies.
