  • Purpose of the Job


A Data Governance Analyst II (Privacy) specializes in managing the information flow for organizations, including the privacy, integrity, access to and security of data.

They ensure that the data is protected both at rest and in motion. They are the custodian of the Data Privacy mailbox.


Data Assurance establishes methods and processes to monitor data to ensure that the data usage aligns to the regulations, standards, classifications and measures that have been put in place and if there are issues then will collaborate with the required parties to resolve the issue.

Design, develop and deploy data policies, guidelines, standards and processes for Governance and Protection and to ensure that they are enforced for data assets within the organisation.


Ensure Protection of data across the organisation in line with the Data Classifications and to ensure strict adherence to the agreed Access and Classification processes.

Review Policies, Processes and Standards for Data Protection and Retention

Monitor Data sharing and processing agreements in accordance with data legislation.

Monitor the Data Privacy mailbox and record and follow up on Data Privacy requests including: the right to be forgotten and on data breaches

Review and vet Interface Specifications (IFS) to ensure POPIA and regulatory compliance

Mentor and perform Peer Reviews for Team members

  • Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Informatics or related technical field, However, work experience will be of equal importance.

Business Analysis (Optional)

Data Process Analysis

DAMA CDMP fundamentals (Certified Data Management Professional)

MS Excel or a similar tool for data analysis

  • Experience


A minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience in data governance with a focus on Data Privacy management and with a significant influence on the overall direction of data governance policies and on metadata management.

At least 3 years' experience working with or delivering data governance for Retail or other FMCG Businesses

An analytical mindset with problem-solving skills

Knowledge of best practices in Data Privacy (PAIA, POPI and GDPR) and Data Sharing

An awareness of the Risk and Compliance requirements of the Shoprite Group

  • Knowledge and Skills
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Knowledge of DAMA-DMBOK (Data Management Book of Knowledge).

Knowledge of Jira and Agile methodology would be an advantage.
