- Evaluation of a patient's medicine-related needs, including determining the indication, safety, and effectiveness of therapy.
- Dispensing of medicine or scheduled substances on prescription from an authorized prescriber.
- Signing off and checking prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns and accepting accountability for their correctness.
- Furnishing information and advice on the use of medicine.
- Determining patient compliance with therapy and following up to ensure medicine-related needs are met.
- Providing pharmacist-initiated therapy and compounding, manipulating, preparing, or packaging medicine or scheduled substances.
- Purchasing, acquiring, importing, keeping, possessing, using, releasing, storing, packaging, re-packaging, supplying, or selling medicine or scheduled substances.
- Applying for medicine registration according to the Medicines Act and Pharmacy Act.
- Acting professionally and responsibly within legal requirements.
- Capturing script details accurately and verifying patient details on the system.
- Ensuring accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking medication and being aware of common dosages and important drug interactions.
- Providing accurate instructions on medicine use.
- Keeping abreast of medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing.
- Advising and assisting patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front-shop.
- Following up on script tracking reports and appointments.
- Explaining medical aid costs to patients.
- Following through on promises made to customers.
- Evaluating disease conditions and referring patients to in-store health facilities when necessary.
- Processing paperwork for submitting claims to medical aids.
- Correcting errors on rejected scripts.
- Ensuring authorization of chronic, HIV, and AIDS medications.
- Maintaining customer profiles on the system.
- Merging profiles locally and notifying Vexall to merge profiles centrally.
- Taking note of messages on customer profiles and taking suitable action.
- Assisting the Dispensary Manager in ensuring correct and timely administration functions.
- Reporting low stock levels and stock errors to the Dispensary Manager.
- Facilitating bi-annual stock takes.
- Exercising stock, cash, and asset control.
- Assisting the Dispensary Manager in adhering to stock control processes and maintaining updated registers according to legislation.
- Maintaining housekeeping standards in accordance with Dis-Chem guidelines.
- Adhering to Dis-Chem policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures.
- Adhering to Health and Safety rules and regulations.
- Adhering to Dis-Chem uniform and personal appearance policy.
- Strong English language skills and second language proficiency – reading, writing, and speaking.
