    About the Role


    The National Empowerment Fund is seeking an Investment Associate to join our KZN Regional Office team. The successful candidate will be responsible for screening and processing regional applications, as well as referring suitable applications to the Funds for further consideration.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform eligibility screening of new applications based on NEF's criteria and mandate.
    • Conduct commercial assessments of applications, generating reports with recommendations on whether to accept or reject.
    • Prepare financial analyses for commercial screening purposes.
    • Communicate with applicants to request information and provide guidance as needed.
    • Conduct desktop research using search engines to gather industry information required for application assessments.
    • Identify potential risks and make recommendations to the Regional Manager on the way forward.
    • Develop networks in Kwa-Zulu Natal to source good deal flow for the NEF.
    • Attend relevant conferences and seminars as part of the Pre-Investment Business Support initiative.
    • Resolve client complaints that cannot be resolved by the Product Advisor and provide pre-investment mentorship where necessary.
    • Perform business valuations for applicants.
    • Conduct post-investment due diligence and monitoring of all investments in the regional office portfolio.
    • Assess applications from existing investees for further funding and obtain approval from relevant committees.
    • Provide technical assistance and mentorship to investees in conjunction with the POIU.
    • Maintain effective portfolio management to reduce risk for the NEF in conjunction with the POIU.
    • Manage relationships with existing investees through CRM.

    Qualifications

    • A Postgraduate Commerce Degree would be advantageous.

    Requirements

    • At least 3 years' experience in SME funding, deal making, investment environment, business banking, venture capital, or development finance.
    • Experience in managing an SME portfolio.
    • Familiarity with the investment process, particularly as it relates to SME funding.
    • Basic understanding of various investment instruments and deal structures applicable to SME portfolios.
    • Knowledge of key commercial statutes and regulations (e.g., Tax, Companies Act, BEE legislative environment).
    • Ability to perform desktop analysis and risk assessments, presenting written recommendations.
    • Financial statement analysis skills.
    • Capacity to generate deal flow through own networks.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
    • Strong communication and presentation skills.
    • Credit control and collections skills.
