Urban-Econ Development Economists (Pty) Ltd requires the services of a young and vibrant
Development Economist** who has an interest in Development, Economics and Research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Liaise and consult with clients and stakeholders both verbal and written;
- Manage specific assignments and serve as the main point of liaison with clients, representing the company;
- Compile clear and practical work plans for the deliverables with appropriate timeframes and report progress;
- Draft monthly progress reports to clients;
- Supervise a small team of junior researchers, allocate responsibilities and deadlines;
- Guide and motivate junior researchers throughout each project;
- Compile professional economic research reports and presentations;
- Review and analyse policies;
- Analyse statistics and demographic information;
- Draft economic development plans, feasibility studies and strategies;
- Analyse and interpret economic data, indicators, and trends;
- Evaluate the potential economic, social, and environmental impacts of development projects or programmes;
- Conduct relevant primary and secondary research using a variety of techniques;
- Facilitate focusgroup meetings and workshops;
- Regular adhoc reporting to branch manager and other senior staff;
- Prepare and deliver presentations to large audiences;
- Undertake additional tasks as requested of them by their seniors and Unit Manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Project Management experience;
- Ability to work with junior staff members and motivate small teams;
- Ability to delegate responsibilities and hold other accountable;
- Ability to identify information sources and collect information;
- Ability to organise and analyse data;
- Ability to organise time and meet deadlines;
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken language;
- Good numerical skills;
- Proficient inf MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Power Point;
- Good academic referencing skills;
- Strong public speaking abilities (Presentations);
- Strong academic background in macroeconomics, microeconomics, econometrics, development economics, quantitative methods, and research methodology.
- Must be interested in economic research & development, report writing as well as data analysis.
Minimum Requirements (Non-Negotiable)
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in either Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, Development Studies or Development Economics;
- Previous research project management experience;
- Minimum 3 years working experience in economics or a related discipline;
- Own vehicle and a valid Driver's License (Code B).
