    Scientist/Engineer: Process Control - MAC (Re-advert)

    Position Summary: Mintek is seeking a qualified individual to conduct research into advanced control systems and optimisation strategies for minerals processing and metallurgical plants.

    Salary: Market Related

    Key Responsibilities:

    The selected candidate will contribute to the development of world-leading advanced process control solutions that are deployed in the industry, both in South Africa and globally. Key responsibilities include conducting research into advanced process control solutions, identifying opportunities for technology development and commercialization, and playing a leading role in minor and support roles in major research projects.

    The ideal candidate should have experience in the field of advanced process control systems and/or modelling, with a strong background in MATLAB or Python programming. A B.Eng. in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a B.Sc Honours in an applicable field, is required. Additionally, the candidate should be willing to study further towards an M.Eng/M.Sc and PhD in a field aligned with Mintek's research.

    Requirements:

    • B.Eng. in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or B.Sc Honours in an applicable field.
    • 2 years vocational experience following first graduation.
    • Familiarity with MATLAB or Python programming.
    • Computer programming skills in C, C#, or VB.NET.
    • Numerical analysis and solving differential equations.
    • Modelling of complex systems including mechanical, chemical and/or thermodynamic aspects.

    Competencies:

    The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication and presentation skills, numerical and quantitative skills, and be self-driven, able to multi-task and lead by example. Advanced process control and process modelling knowledge are also essential.
