A rapidly expanding wealth and risk management business with a reputation for excellence is currently seeking to fill a commercial underwriting position.


This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly expanding business with offices in Stellenbosch, Durbanville, and currently expanding across the country.


The core function of this role is to analyse information, establish the client's risk, match risk with the most appropriate product, screen the applicant based on a set of underwriting criteria, evaluate the risk and do recommendations from an underwriting point of view to mitigate losses, determine appropriate premiums and ensure the risk falls within the treaty conditions.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Provide stakeholders with effective and efficient commercial lines underwriting services according to the required standards and procedures in order to retain existing clients and secure new business in support of the business strategy.
  • Take appropriate action to minimise cancellations.
  • Ensure retention targets are met.
  • Ensure that all stakeholder (e.g. clients, AE's, insurers) communication is accurate, timeous, professional and relevant.
  • Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure and contribute to achieving own and company required client satisfaction targets.
  • Adhere to company quality standards and broader regulations.
  • General Enquiries such as but not limited to cover, products, processes, etc.
  • New Business, Renewals, Endorsements and Rebroke.
  • Analyse clients' portfolios.
  • Request, obtain and assess quotes from insurers.
  • Request, obtain, and/or provide clients with all required information and/or documents.
  • Raise premiums.
  • Cancellations.
  • Follow retention processes.
  • Cancel the policy on the system.
  • Confirm cancellation request with the client.
  • File all relevant documentation electronically and in hard copy.
  • Refunds.
  • Raise invoices.
  • Request refunds from the line manager electronically.
  • Engage in timely and proactive communication with relevant client account executive regarding movements on the client's portfolio and servicing requirements.
  • Ensure productivity targets are met.
  • Contribute towards and ensure continuous improvement in own and team performance.
  • Adhere to company mandates.
  • Participate and contribute to ad hoc projects.

Qualifications and Experience:


  • Tertiary Qualifications
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications will be highly desirable.
  • RE5 (regulatory examination for Representatives) or working towards.
  • 4+ years' experience in a similar role.

  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans.
  • Clear credit record, with no criminal record.
  • FAIS Compliant.
  • Computer Literate.
  • Excellent Communication skills.
  • Excellent Client Service skills.
  • Intermediate Excel skills.

Remuneration:


  • R20,000 to R35,000 pm, depending on experience.
