Description

To ensure the sustainability and improved profitability of the operations within SMD and to develop and execute a sales strategy that ensures that SMD retains and grows its leading market share position in South Africa.

  • Strategy
  • Contribute in the development of the organisational strategy in line with its mission and vision.
  • Formulate strategic plans to ensure that the business attains its objectives efficiently and cost effectively.
  • Build and drive fitforpurpose commercial strategy.
  • Deploy strategies in line with the Barloworld Business System (BBS).
  • Commercial Management
  • Unlock new opportunities in line with the strategic direction of the business.
  • Build leading fitforpurpose value propositions for suppliers and customers.
  • Build commercial processes and models that will deliver sustainable financial results for business and its stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective contract management to deliver value and reach commercial objectives.
  • Build capabilities necessary to successfully deliver client value proposition.
  • Build partnerships with industry players for solutions development and deployments in line with the business strategy.
  • Drive a culture of continuous innovation and improvement by ensuring that SMD remains at the forefront of the industry.
  • Build and execute a robust key stakeholder management strategy for the business.
  • Operations Management
  • Plan and manage the salvage management endtoend processes and related risks, ensuring all resources are in place, optimally aligned and further enhanced to achieve the set strategic and tactical business objectives.
  • Ensure availability of trading platforms to maximise productivity and service delivery.
  • Ensure optimal safeguarding of all company and stakeholder assets.
  • Drive efficient and effective management of all operational sites and related business resources.
  • Financial Management
  • Manage financial performance and reporting for internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Prepare, manage annual budget.
  • Drive delivery of both internal and partners' financial targets.
  • Ethics, Risk and Governance
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, practices, standards and relevant regulations.
  • SHEQ
  • Drive all safety, health and environmental policies and procedures to create a safe workplace for all and meet legislative requirements.

  • Build and maintain sustainable customer relations to deliver value.
  • Deliver a distinctive customer experience to ensure SMD remains the partner of choice.

  • Build and maintain trusted strategic partnerships with insurers to deliver sustainable value.
  • Deliver a distinctive supplier experience to ensure SMD remains the partner of choice.
  • Develop innovative solutions in collaboration with suppliers for breakthrough results.
  • Leadership
  • Provide clear direction and decisive leadership to the teams (direct/indirect) ensuring all are aligned to the goals and have a clear purpose.
  • Set clearly defined performance standards / targets for the team, holding them accountable to achieve these and providing support and guidance where needed.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere conducive to excellent performance, fostering trust and open communication, engaging and motivating others to always give their best, while respecting any areas of diversity and inclusivity (whether areas of expertise, cultural, gender, age, background, etc.).

Academic qualifications


Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce/Business/ equivalent

Advantageous:

  • MBA/postgraduate degree in business management/equivalent
Work experience


Essential:

  • Minimum of 5yrs senior management experience
  • Minimum of 5yrs sales management experience
  • Minimum of 5yrs people management experience
  • Minimum of 5yrs operations management experience
  • Prior experience in engaging across levels including executive level
  • Established relevant industry networks

Advantageous:

  • Insurance Industry experience
