    Job Description

    **Main Responsibilities**

    • The metallurgist will lead and control all activities within the Mineral Processing division, liaising with relevant departments as necessary.
    • Data processing and reporting will be conducted in accordance with company guidelines, with minimal input from the line manager.
    • The incumbent will create the context for work, planning and structuring task achievements over a period of one week to three months.
    • Consumable levels within the Mineral Processing division will be monitored, in conjunction with the divisional manager.
    • Evaluation of results and interpretation thereof will be carried out.
    • The position will often take on a coaching role, explaining how work should be performed.
    • Subordinates will be managed, trained and directed in quality, test work methodology, safety and time management.
    • Meetings with clients and colleagues will be held to discuss project progress and timelines.
    • Weekend test work and monitoring of tests over weekends and public holidays may be required.
    • Planning, set-up, commissioning and operation of flotation test work and lock cycle tests, Jameson tests will be assisted with.
    • Formatting, editing and setting up of forms required to record laboratory test work results and associated data will be carried out.
    • The effective and appropriate use of equipment and facilities, with good housekeeping, is essential.
    • All quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system must be adhered to.
    • Additional tasks may be assigned by the direct line manager.

    **Qualifications**

    Education

    • National Diploma or BSc in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Metallurgy.

    Experience

    • Minimum of 10 years in the relevant field.

    Competencies

    • The ability to drive projects to completion within specified timelines is critical.
    • Fast and accurate work is achieved through good time management skills.
    • Work must be neat and organized, with equipment, files and paperwork kept in order.
