    Job Overview

    Solutions for mine safety and situational awareness involve the design and development of electronic systems for current and future Proximity Detection Systems.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design and develop electronic systems for current and future Proximity Detection Systems.
    • Develop embedded applications for microcontrollers/microprocessors in control systems.
    • Design Electronic applications from schematic capture, PCB layout to test, planning, and implementation.
    • Support and maintain existing product designs.
    • Develop component qualification processes for extreme environments.
    • Define internal interfaces between parts of the electronics.
    • Implement the design in hardware, firmware, and software.
    • Test the hardware and implement corrections.
    • Maintain existing products in terms of software changes, PCB updates, firmware changes, and documentation.
    • Simulate the design at various levels.
    • Derive requirements for complex electronics.
    • Ensure external interfaces match the specification, including voltage level and timing. Synthesize, place, and route designs.
    • Program complex electronics.
    • Test the final hardware and implement corrections.
    • Perform system safety analyses and identify safety verifications.
    • Identify if complex electronics can cause a hazard or are part of a hazard control.
    • Ensure that design errors in complex electronics are considered as a failure mode.
    • Review subsystem requirements.

    Qualifications

    • BEng (Electronic) or BEng (Computer).

    Required Skills and Capabilities

    • Assess and implement against requirements and design.
    • Ensure development and supporting processes (e.g., Configuration Management, ESD) are in place and followed.
    • Review choice of parts.
    • Ensure electronics are assembled/ manufactured to acceptable standards.
    • Perform or witness testing at various system and subsystems.
    • Ensure software tools used for complex electronic design and programming are archived and controlled.
    • Ensure complex electronic designs are captured in the Configuration Management system.
    • Ensure changes to complex electronic designs are reviewed, evaluated for impacts, and approved.
    • Provide official builds for formal programming/testing.
