The Opportunity


Edelman's office in Johannesburg has an incredible opportunity for a Head of Corporate Reputation to lead a team spanning Johannesburg and Nairobi focused on cutting-edge integrated corporate reputation and communications campaigns on behalf of corporations such as DP World, Heineken, Nissan, and Hilton and governments.

We're looking for a charismatic and driven professional who can provide expert client counsel, while inspiring and leading teams to build culture, up-level client work, expand our collective capability, and drive growth.

This is a collaborative, supportive environment and at its core, Edelman is an entrepreneurial agency.

You will work with your Corporate Reputation colleagues in Africa, EMEA, and globally, and in close partnership with your peers across the agency including our Brand, Health, Digital, and Creative teams.


The scope of the role will consist of three key areas:

  • Client Account Work
  • New Business and Marketing Efforts
  • Practice Management, Culture, and People Leadership

Client account work:


  • Provide solutions to help our clients across a range of industries navigate their most pressing reputational issues
  • Demonstrate superior client management and be a trusted advisor by building relationships with Clevel clients
  • Lead large scale, highly visible client work, managing stakeholder engagement, thought leadership, executive visibility, newsroom, and traditional media relations programs to exceed expectations
  • Lead operational and financial performance of account teams, ensuring quality work, effective processes, and that client requests are handled in a timely and strategic fashion
  • Demonstrate advanced writing skills and supervise writing of others
  • Be a consumer of news help identify media trends/interests, what "works" with top media

New business and marketing efforts:


  • Drive organic and new business development, RFP responses, and client acquisitions
  • Serve as an external Edelman ambassador to ensure a robust new business pipeline by pursuing opportunities with potential new clients

Practice management, culture, and people leadership:

  • Serve as a key partner and leader within the executive team of Africa to inspire, design and implement localized strategies that support Edelman's larger vision in Africa, EMEA, and globally
  • Inspire a high functioning and collaborative team to work across practices/sectors including Brand, Health, Digital, and Creative
  • Lead staff by mentoring, motivating, coaching, consistently providing feedback, holding them accountable and conducting their reviews and overseeing their professional development
  • Retain and recruit topnotch talent
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse practice with an eye towards skills development, collaboration, and inclusion
  • Hold both team and selfaccountable for highest level of performance and ethics.

About you:


  • Minimum of 12 years' experience practicing corporate communications in an agency, consulting, or inhouse setting
  • Have a demonstrated history of leading profitable programs that have advanced client business goals and enabled clients to draw on best practice corporate reputation capabilities i.e. Issues & Crisis, Executive Positioning, Media, Sustainability
  • Proven and respected thought and business leader
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and solve complex problems while making decisions with entrepreneurial mindset
  • Proven ability to grow business, and love to pitch, present, and win new business
  • Deep and trusted relationships with key industry stakeholders
  • Have strong contacts and working relationships with local and global news media
  • Able to manage client program budgets and internal resources
  • Experienced in effectively influencing, managing, and developing diverse teams
  • Are a superb people manager; enjoy coaching and mentoring junior staff
  • Bring a commitment to advancing the vision of the Edelman Corporate practice both internally and externally
