SUMMARY


To manage the overall rehabilitation and restorative function per shift in the unit in accordance with applicable legislation and agreed medical procedures.

To assist with the Multidisciplinary program and discharge planning.


ESSENSIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, NOT LIMITED TO:

Patient

  • Assess and Monitor patient condition, medical situation and vital signs as needed.
  • Maintain accurate reporting and record keeping.
  • Manage treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and condition.
  • Consult and coordinate with multidisciplinary team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
  • Implement infection control programs as needed. Advising and take necessary precautions.
  • Recommend drugs, medical devices, or other forms of treatment, such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.
  • Prepare patients for and assist with examinations or treatments.
  • Assist with discharge planning program and training of Caregiver if needed.
  • Ensure that special dietary requirements are met.
  • Handle patient complaints in the correct manner by addressing it as soon as possible.

Medication:


  • Ensure that prescribed medication is administered timeously and correctly within the guidelines of the Nursing Scope of Practice (no2598) and Pharmaceutical regulations.
  • Ensure that the patient individual medication is always available in liaison with doctors and pharmacists.
  • Keep medicine charts up to date and complete Drug book accordingly.

Admin and Staff:


  • Regularly update oneself and staff on all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Direct, train and supervise junior staff or healthcare personnel.
  • Organized the shift and daily planning.
  • See to accurate and daily billing is maintained
  • Ensure that all stock levels are maintained.
  • Provide ongoing inservice training to staff within their scope to maintain high care standards.
  • Proactively address staff issues and performance, through effective example, motivation and discipline.
  • Keep documentation up to date and maintain flow of communication.
  • Keep notes and records up to date on relevant software systems.

Other:


  • Perform any task as reasonably requested by management.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:


  • Matric
  • Relevant degree or diploma in Nursing.
  • Registered with the South African Nursing council (SANC).
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as Registered nurse.
  • Previous experience in a subacute facility will be advantageous.
  • Rehab / frail care / post operation recovery experience will be advantages.

SKILLS:

Good communication and interpersonal skills is required with the ability to work under pressure. Function as part of a team and independently. Required to be able to think on your feet and show initiative. Be assertive when needed.
