Description

The purpose:

To develop and implement an Ivanhoe Mines Group tax strategy and approach to tax risk management.

Single point accountability for all aspects of tax advisory, accounting, forecasts, compliance and risk management obligations, ensuring that Ivanhoe group maintains a competitive, stable and sustainable tax position in compliance with relevant laws and stakeholder expectations.

Your key responsibilities:

Financial Management

Develop and implement an Ivanhoe Mines Group tax strategy and obtain board approval annually to confirm its validity
Establish a legal structure to ensure that assets are held in a manner which optimises the Groupwide tax position on acquisition, operation and disposal
Establish and maintain structures to ensure that operations and investments are funded in a manner which optimises tax relief for financing costs
Strategically participates in tax policy and administration consultation by actively participating in industry bodies such as Chamber of Mines and SAIT work groups, BUSA and BLSA
Provide accurate and appropriate tax advice, in respect of all direct and indirect taxes for all the Group Ivanhoe Mines activities and intended transactions.
Single point of accountability for tax compliance and reporting processes relating to income and indirect taxes including calculations, filings and forecasts ensuring that all lodgments are timely and accurate in respect of the all entities with average annual tax payments amounting to US$XXXX and claiming refunds amounting to US$XXXX
Managing tax reviews, audits, disputes in a proactive and effective manner to reduce its exposure, whilst remaining compliance with legislation
Establish appropriate transfer pricing arrangements considering the marketing structures and other international transactions and funding

Reporting

Accountable for external financial tax reporting obligations including the disclosure of tax expense and tax assets and liabilities recorded on the balance sheet

Risk Management

Establish an effective control and governance framework and establish risk tolerance levels and a process to manage risks within the tolerance levels approved by the Board

Compliance

Ensure that new taxes such as Carbon Tax is implemented to ensure compliance and an optimised position for Ivanhoe Mines Group

Stakeholder Management

Develop and maintain proactive relationships with tax authorities, external consultants and external auditors
Establish a tax effective internal and external capital management process considering multiple shareholders

You will need:

A Degree in Accounting / Commerce / Finance with Higher Diploma Taxation or MCom Tax, CA, CIMA or equivalent accounting.

- + 10 years of relevant tax planning and compliance experience at senior management level.
- + 3 years international corporate tax experience across various African countries.

A registered member of The South African Institute of Taxation (SAIT) & (SAIPA).

- stable and sustainable tax position in compliance with relevant laws and stakeholder expectations.

Advantageous:

CPA designation with completion of Indepth tax courses.
Extensive individual and corporate tax knowledge.
International good practices in tax administration including developing and implementing a comprehensive compliance management program.
Strong knowledge of tax code, compliance and procedures for corporations.
Strong experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to drive process improvements.
Strong ability to utilize project management and accounting best practices to organize and prioritize tasks and the tasks of other tax team members.
Flexibility in resolving issues and addressing changing priorities.
