    Job Purpose

    • Candidate will play a leading role in developing and expanding Nedbank Insurance's coverage across the Internet of Things arena. The ideal person will be highly commercial combined with an appreciation of the relevant IoT enterprise and consumer technologies.
    • The position is best suited to a self-motivated and confident individual who has a strong understanding of the Internet of Things market gained either from research, product, or strategy management background.
    • Candidate will be responsible to drive the strategy for complex products and services and responsible for defining desirable, viable, feasible, and sustainable solutions that meet customer needs and supporting development across the product life cycle. Manage large scale budgets to ensure allocation aligns with strategic objectives and KPIs.
    • To guide each solution through the four stages of the product life cycle (introduction, growth, maturity, and decline), ensuring that maximum business value is achieved over the life of the solution and ensure that solutions deliver tangible business value. Collaborate in converting ideas into a steady stream of valuable products and services that requires ongoing coordination and communication across the organisation to bridge portfolio strategy and execution.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Develop the market leading IoT advisory service through making better use of Nedbank Insurance research assets and enhance the service's data sets and research deliverables.
    • Define an IoT strategy, research plan and manage its delivery on time and to budget.
    • Play a pivotal role in helping to grow client relationships in the IoT segment, supporting our teams in meeting with existing and potential customers through subject matter and industry expertise.
    • Present comfortably in front of a range of audiences, from sales and marketing staff to senior executives, service providers, systems integrators, software vendors and user organisations.
    • Use well-honed primary research skills to gather data and insight into the IoT market, with a particular focus on supplier market sizing, supplier market share and vendor contracts.
    • Write analysis which gives our stakeholders and clients unique insight into emerging opportunities across enterprise and consumer IoT services, including vertical insight in the automotive, utilities, financial services markets, and the SME segment.
    • Leverage your reputation in the IoT services industry as an analyst who is unafraid to take a stand on major issues, backed by up-to-date sector knowledge.
    • Collaborate with, and manage members of, the broader team of analyst experts to use their market and technical knowledge in order to fulfil projects.
    • Maintain and grow network of industry experts, further building footprint, and Nedbank Insurance in the IoT industry.
    • Continuously explores the Solution Context for complex products and services, gathering qualitative and quantitative insights about market dynamics and user preferences leveraging both business and technical strategy to produce the hypotheses that fuel the Continuous Delivery Pipeline.
    • Drive primary and secondary research and leverages both to inform overall product strategy and specific elements of product design.
    • Understand segments, customer needs, and market rhythms to achieve maximum business value by deploying the right product to the customer at the right time.
    • Ensure that solutions deliver maximum business benefit through understanding of the needs of end users.

    • Employ iterative elicitation techniques such as Lean UX, human-centred design (HCD), and journey mapping to evolve product strategy in alignment with these ever-changing needs.
    • Drive a customer-centric mindset that focuses the entire organization on creating desirable, viable, feasible, and sustainable solutions.
    • Leverages design thinking practices and tools to fully understand the problems to be solved and to design the solutions that best address them.
    • Accountable to translate customer needs into solution concepts that can be delivered by Agile Teams and achieve measurable business outcomes.
    • Responsible for delivery budget for complex products and services including providing input to enterprise budget allocation (with associated benefits and value), distributing allocated budgets amongst delivery teams and ensuring spend is tracked and allocated to the prioritised features
    • Examines a feature's implementation against its acceptance criteria and determines whether it contains enough business value to be released.
    • Provides support and enablement to key functions in the operational value stream to ensure the full value of every release is realized and tracked
    • Responsible for product performance - ensuring that all business and strategic targets are met, and where necessary, plans are enabled to close the gaps.
    • Drive commercialisation efforts by working collaboratively with other areas to develop and track the commercialisation plan and ensure KPIs can be measured against business targets.

    People Specification

    • Knowledge - Excellent knowledge of IoT markets and technologies.
    • Management - Small team management experience and/or evidence of managing mid-large projects.
    • Good writing skills - Comfortable writing both short, highly opinionated pieces, and longer, more discursive analyses. You will be required to structure complex threads of argument and explain implications and opportunities in simple terms.
    • Numeracy - Build and maintain market models and forecasts covering enterprise services. Experience in building models based on primary research data and market demographics. Strong Excel skills are essential.
    • Strong team working skills - Candidate will be part of a team of skilled individuals who will jointly be responsible for developing and research. Candidate will frequently lead or work as part of a team on both analysis and consulting projects.
    • Practical knowledge of cloud platforms, wireless transmission, and algorithm development.
    • In-depth understanding of how different sensors work and transmit data.
    • Knowledge of the basics of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design.
    • Expertise in coding and programming languages, such as JavaScript, Python, and Swift.
    • Comfortable experimenting with and using AI and other types of machine learning to synthesize data.
    • Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced and highly technical environment.
    • Possesses general understanding in the areas of IoT, RFID & sensors, solutions development, ERP, WMS, programming, database, and system design.

    Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

    • Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
    • Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees

    Post Graduate Qualification Field of study: Engineering, Business Management, Marketing, Financial Bcom, Computing

    Essential Certifications


    Relevant industry certifications, such as through the Cloud Credential Council or the Internet of Things Foundation. Scaled Agile Framework certification (Leading Safe, Safe PO/PM, DevOps).

    Minimum Experience Level

    • Ten years' experience as an IoT Engineer / Product management or similar role.
    • 5+ years of experience managing projects.
    • Prior experience as an architect or systems or software engineer beneficial.
