Scope
Prepares documents and forms to move goods efficiently through export steps and procedures. Reviews paperwork and documents to ensure shipping, handling, storage charges, and customs fees are billed correctly. Maintains a database that tracks merchandise.


Job brief


We are looking for an
Assistant Exports and Imports Clerk to assist with the administration required for export and imports.


Responsibilities

  • Communicate with buyers and sellers and organize the shipment of goods from point A to point B, ensuring all customs regulations are closely followed.
  • Pulling, packing, and loading, costing of shipments.
  • Creating bookings to different shipping lines.
  • Tracks, traces, and updates the status of outgoing shipments.
  • Processing of purchase requests.
  • Liaison with clearing agents/forwarders.
  • Estimated and actual costings of shipments
  • Maintenance of price list.
  • General admin and filing.
  • Checking of all charges from agents prior to final authorization.
  • Management of new product samples received for testing.
  • Examines shipping documents and verifies cargo to be released.
  • Records customs clearance requirements and authorizes collection of cargo.
  • Calculates storage and clearance charges and bills customers.
  • Receives details of outgoing cargo and arranges bookings of freight space and collection of goods from customers.

Requirements:


  • 3 to 5 years Ocean Freight Export experience essential.

  • Ability to multitask in fastpaced dynamic environment,

  • Excellent customer service and negotiation skills
  • Computer skills (knowledge of Microsoft Office is valuable, plus the ability to learn computer programs used by different import/export companies)
  • Understanding of global supply chain and logistics (including the advantages and disadvantages of various transportation methods, security requirements, inventory management and order processing, etc.)
  • The job requires long periods of sitting and working at a computer.
  • Must be able to solve problems that arise while negotiating the flow of goods, such as delays in deliveries or issues with customs.
  • You need to be able to manage stress, communicate well, and work within tight deadlines to succeed in this position.
  • Be able to work after hours when required.

Salary:
R10, R13,000.00 per month


Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Alberton, Gauteng: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (required)

Experience:

Ocean Freight Export: 3 years (preferred)
