Job Overview

A dynamic opportunity has arisen in the medical research sector for a Senior Android Developer. Our client, a digital health company dedicated to accessible hearing solutions, seeks an individual passionate about creating meaningful impact.

This position is based in Pretoria and offers a chance to be part of a team driving positive change in human lives.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will design, develop, and maintain innovative health platforms on the Android platform, adhering to precise specifications while ensuring code is neat, accurate, and scalable. Key responsibilities include:

Maintaining and upgrading our hearing aid solutions platform
Providing guidance from an Android best practice perspective for products across the company
Mentoring other Android developers as needed

Requirements

To succeed in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications and experience:

Minimum Education (Essential): National Senior Certificate
Minimum Education (Desirable): Diploma and/or degree in IT / Engineering / Programming
Minimum Applicable Experience (Years): 5 years as an Android Developer
Required Nature of Experience: Hands-on software developer with responsibility for developing and maintaining 1 or more projects

Key Skills and Knowledge

Candidates should have:

Experience in native Android development using Kotlin and Java
Reactive programming skills
Strong knowledge of Android development and its supporting systems
Proficiency in Kotlin (Minimum 2 years' experience)
A good understanding of storage mechanisms, threading, lifecycles
Knowledge of common 3rd party frameworks/libraries available and integration experience
Strong UI development experience and expertise in developing for dynamic screen support
Experience with RESTful API integration
Well-versed in Git
Solid understanding of the full mobile development life cycle within an Agile environment
Atlassian JIRA software experience is beneficial
Good understanding of Bluetooth on Android is beneficial
Good understanding of RxAndroid, RxJava, and RxKotlin is beneficial
