    Senior Lecturer / Lecturer: Mechatronic Engineering

    Job Title: Senior Lecturer / Lecturer: Mechatronic Engineering is a teaching position that involves imparting knowledge to students in various fields of mechatronic engineering.

    Faculty: The role falls under the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, specifically within the Mechanical Engineering department at Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

    Campus/Location: The campus or location for this position will be determined separately.

    Job Type: This is a permanent position.

    Number of Positions: There is one available position.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate programs covering subjects such as Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Control Systems, Industrial Automation, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, Process Control & Industrial Networking, Electronic System & Devices, Mechatronic Control Systems, and Mechatronic System Design & Simulation.
    • Conducting research and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students in their academic pursuits.

    Requirements for Senior Lecturer Position:

    • A doctoral degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field is mandatory.
    • The candidate must have at least four years of lecturing experience or equivalent industrial experience.
    • Demonstrable ability to teach specialized electrical and electronics engineering disciplines is crucial.
    • A track record of carrying out research, evidenced by publications in accredited journals, is highly valued.
    • Successful postgraduate supervision is expected.
    • Evidence of academic and research leadership is necessary.
    • Registration with ECSA Professional Body or registration within 12 months of employment is required.

    Requirements for Lecturer Position:

    • A master's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field is essential.
    • The candidate should have at least two years of lecturing experience or equivalent industrial experience.
    • Demonstrable ability to teach specialized electrical and electronics engineering disciplines is important.
    • Working knowledge of Electrical and Electronics Engineering software packages is beneficial.
    • Registration with ECSA Professional Body or registration within 12 months of employment is mandatory.

    Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

    • Lecturing on Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering programs.
    • Developing learning materials for various qualifications.
    • Supervising and mentoring students, including undergraduate and postgraduate students.
    • Contributing to research outputs through participation in research activities.
    • Assisting with departmental administration and quality assurance related tasks.
    • Liaising with industry partners and other stakeholders.
    • Conducting research and publishing articles in accredited journals.
    • Designing and developing curricula, assessing quality, and ensuring curriculum relevance.
    • Providing academic administration support, development, and management services.
    • Maintaining a strong learner focus throughout all academic endeavors.

    Additional Information:

    This position is open until March 30, 2025. All applicants must meet the requirements for promotion to be considered for a senior lecturer position.
