Description

Project Development Manager

Drive the development of large-scale renewable energy projects, focusing on solar energy. Collaborate with the Business Development team to shape and implement strategies for new and existing markets, expanding our presence in the renewable energy sector.

Manage the project lifecycle, from initiation to financial close, ensuring efficient completion and alignment with company objectives. Identify and originate project development opportunities, manage government tender submissions, and oversee cross-functional team coordination.

Negotiate key agreements, including Offtake Agreements, Joint Development Agreements (JDAs), and Shareholder Agreements. Manage project budgets, identify risks, and develop mitigation strategies.

Responsibilities

Define and implement market strategies with the Business Development team.
Originate project development and M&A opportunities, evaluating emerging sectors like Commercial & Industrial.
Review government tenders and manage submission responses.
Explore partnership opportunities and build strong market relationships.
Conduct thorough market and competitor analysis to evaluate potential projects.
Oversee full project lifecycles from initiation to financial close, collaborating with finance, legal, technical, and HR teams.
Manage project budgets, ensuring cost control while meeting objectives.
Negotiate key agreements with legal and finance teams.
Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Support due diligence for M&A and project finance transactions.
Lead and coordinate project teams, ensuring deadlines and goals are met.
Prepare internal reports and investment papers for project approvals.
Represent the company at industry events and build valuable networks.

Requirements

A minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification.

Experience

At least 5 years of relevant experience in the renewable energy sector.
Project management experience within the energy industry is essential.
A strong background in the power industry and hands-on experience in renewable energy projects is crucial.
In-depth knowledge of the South African energy market is required.
Previous experience in managing utility-scale, project-financed projects through to financial close is an advantage.
