Our client that specialises in a range of condition monitoring techniques, which includes the scientific analysis of used oil and other fluids from mechanical and electrical systems, operating in many industries such as transport, industrial, power generation, water processing, renewable energy, shipping, aircraft, and mining is looking for an

experienced Laboratory Manager to head up their Laboratory and manage roughly 25 staff members.


The Position
The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for the management of all laboratory functions of the Durban Oil Analysis Laboratory.

Organise and control the laboratory and sample room staff to facilitate the efficient processing of samples through the laboratory according to the ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 quality and environmental management systems.


Minimum Educational Requirements:
Tertiary qualification in Chemistry or related field.


Minimum Experience: 5 years working in a supervisory role.

Assertive, Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, accurate, attention to detail, methodical, energetic, team player, takes initiative, computer literate, responsible decision maker, inquiring mind, leadership skills, lateral thinker, good supervision skills, self-starter and good time management skills, ability to

work under pressure and in a high paced laboratory environment.


Duties:

Ensure laboratory practices and procedures as detailed in the quality and environmental management systems are adhered to.

Monitor the status of samples through the laboratory and organise the workload such that FIFO principle is generally applied.

Manage the discipline, control, training and development and motivation of all staff.

Ensure the continuous process of performance appraisals is performed.

Maintain optimal levels of laboratory consumables at all times.

Monitor and adhere to all aspects of the IMS.

Ensure the vetting of sample results is carried out.

Maintain high standards of housekeeping and safety within the laboratory at all times.


Additional requirements:

Computer proficiency (Microsoft Excel/Word)

Strong interpersonal abilities

Ability to work overtime, weekends, public holidays as and when required.
