Production Manager (FMCG)

A well-established packaging manufacturing company in Johannesburg is seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead a production team.

Key Responsibilities:

Achieve a minimum efficiency of 85% as per efficiency logs
Maintain waste levels below 1.4% of material issued, as reported weekly in the material consumption report
Ensure actual master batch usage matches costed usage, as tracked in the weekly material consumption report
Prevent repetitive damage to moulds, as reported in the mould damage report
Ensure zero stockouts of critical spares, as controlled in the spares stock control sheet
Optimize planned maintenance allowance utilization, as reported in the weekly planned maintenance report
Improve cycle times, as measured in efficiency logs and production meeting minutes every hour
Reduce customer returns for manufacturing-related defects to less than 0.2%, as reported in the customer return summary
Address all customer complaints promptly, with no justified complaints
Respond to customer complaints within one hour and resolve them within 24 hours, as verified by internal and external audits, NCQRs, and customer return summary
Adhere to food safety procedures, with zero findings, as reported in external and internal audits
Develop and manage a budget for Production in collaboration with Operations Manager and Finance Manager
Ensure adherence to the skills plan, as reviewed in the food safety management report
Establish a succession plan for the department, as outlined in the succession plan
Retain new employees and minimize turnover of 'A' graded employees
Comply with HR & IR policies and procedures
Maintain a safe working environment, with 100% compliance to the OHS Act, as reported in the safety report

Requirements:

BSc or BEng degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics engineering
5-10 years of experience in a production environment, with 3-5 years at a management level
FMC experience, with Plastic or packaging experience preferred
Effective conflict handling and management skills
Ability to operate under pressure
Strong communication skills, with ability to interact with all levels and departments
Capacity to develop budgets and apply analytical techniques
Ability to interpret data effectively
Capability to develop and coach employees within the department
Ability to implement HR procedures
